I've got some holiday travel coming up and was wondering what books triathlon or running related you all have enjoyed? Fire away

I was fascinated by Iron War. Great story even if The Man and the Grip didn't like it...

Macca's book was okay. Not quite as interesting.

You Are An Ironman is a little slow at points, but I enjoyed it thoroughly especially when chronicling the actual race and results. Found myself moved by many of the people's stories.

I have Chrissie Wellington's book but haven't gotten to it yet. Have heard nothing but great reviews about it. Haven't had a chance to pick up Crowie's book yet either, but looking forward to it soon.

Also read one other that I can't remember which had profiles and histories on 17 different Ironman athletes. Didn't think it was anything special.

I highly recommend Chrissie Wellington's book (A life without limits). Very inspirational. Born to Run if you haven't read it yet. I'm Here to Win by Chris McCormack. Reading Iron War right now and really liking it.

For more common person stories...I thought Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run - from common man to ironman by Andy Holgate was light and fun (if crazy). It was my first triathlon read - a British book I read after being injured on vacation (freak accident, not training). I was a captive audience (literally)..although the book got me thinking about doing a beginner triathlon, so I can't argue. I wouldn't be here if I hadn't read that book.

I'll step outside of biography and human interest. I've enjoyed reading and rereading "Going Long" by Byrn and Friel. Lots of great info and interesting perspectives on training for IM-distance races.

Have to agree w/ Once a Runner.  Great story.  Sequel is ok too.  Trials of miles and miles of tirals...

Born to Run is also a great story IMO.

All those other books are ok too but if you want a story and haven't picked up one of those two, I would.

A few that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

"Swimming to Antartica" by Lynne Cox is a truly fantastic book.  I read it cover to cover in nearly one sitting and was ready to go conquer the world.  I recommend this one even to folks who have no aspirations of doing anything athletic.

I also really enjoyed "Eat & Run" by Scott Jurek.  Don't let the vegan eating bit turn you off - 99% the book is about Scott's life and how it is that he came to be an ultra runner.

And, finally, "Running With the Buffaloes" by Chris Lear is an interesting inside-look at the lives of collegiate cross-country runners.
