Sunny
Total Time = 1h 51m 30s
Overall Rank = 12/14
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

banana, 2 hardboiled eggs and a cliff bar.
Event warmup:

Light stretching. trying to not look like atotal virgin newbie....I still managed to get stressed and have trouble finding things. Note: if you get so organized that you put your timing chip and goggles inside your swim cap, then that would be a good thing to remember later, instead of freaking out, thinking that you left them at home....!!
Swim
  • 13m 53s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

The start was great for about 20 feet. Then the problems started....I was trying not to swim up on the guy in front of me, guys were swimming up onto my legs, it was a total freakout session. I was instantly brathing so hard that there was no way to swim "normal". BTW, I lined up on a direct path with the buoy (highest traffic area for speedy guys), so I guess I should have expected it. I had to flop over and swim backstroke within 100 yds. It worked, I was able to get my breath back, and I alternated free and back the rest of the way (except for a little breaststroke near the bouy). I swam real straight on the 1st leg, but had some trouble on the 2nd. Its amazing how fast you can get off course...
What would you do differently?:

Line up more on an agle where its less crowded. Or get my pace up to a high enough level that I can stay out in front and not worry about it.
Transition 1
  • 07m 50s
Comments:

I actually had a pretty good T1. I waited for my brother so we could hit the bike course together. I think the extra rest helped me to have a strong bike sement also.
What would you do differently?:

Either not wear a shirt (or if wearing wetsuit, put the shirt on under it). Not wear socks. Make sure to swallow a GU before getting too far on the bike.
Bike
  • 39m 55s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.04 mile/hr
Comments:

I made the dunm mistake of putting my front tire on backwards before the race, so my bike computer sensor was on the wrong side! OOPS! New addition to the pre-race checklist (ya think!). So I didn't know how fast I was going or exact distances. I was a little tentative the 1st 1-2 miles, and I didn't get out of the saddle and peddle hard on the one (only) big hill (I wasn't sure if it was the last one). Better familiarity, and a litle more aggressive riding out of the gate would have cut a couple more minutes off my total.
What would you do differently?:

Not come blazing right up to T2 and have to lay down a major skid in order to stop in time (chewed my tire and could have been easily a wipe out and bad experience). I learned my lesson.
Transition 2
  • 05m 50s
Comments:

I had a good T2. I waited for my brother and we hit the run course together.
What would you do differently?:

Not bother with the socks.
Run
  • 44m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

We ran an easy pace, just wanted to have myself and my bro finish together. We came across the finish line and gave each other a big "High 5". It was very cool.
What would you do differently?:

Look better for teh camera guy at the end!
Post race
Warm down:

Light strectching
