Pre-race routine:

Light stretching
Event warmup:

Light breakfast 2 hours before
Swim
  • 27m 12s
  • 1000 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

See above. I guess 34 people in front of me managed, so I need how to deal witht he open water swimming better.
What would you do differently?:

Clean my goggles better, not be afraid to bust out some of my high speed version of the breaststroke when I get tired.

Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 04m 10s
Comments:

I felt my lower back twinge when leaning over to get my wetsuit off my legs. Lesson: for me it is worth it to just sit down for this.

Also, I should of had my shirt on under my wetsuit. Too hard to put on when all wet and in a hurry.

Left my socks off - got a small blister but it was not a problem.

Should have had a GU before I took off. Its hard to remember when you are tired and in a hurry.
What would you do differently?:

see above

should hav ebeen through in 2:30 min or less
Bike
  • 50m 23s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Sore back was not fun for the 1st half mile. Pretty much rode hard after that. There was a lot of wind when going south. I might have drifted a couple of times mentally (not pushing hard enough). I thought I did better than my time indicated. I felt good about it though!
What would you do differently?:

Get aero bars and bottle.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Had a good T2. I wrapped my right calf which ended up being a waste of time.
What would you do differently?:

??
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.1 kms
  • 09m 41s  min/km
Comments:

I had a major cramp im my left calf which surprised the heck out of me because my right leg has been the culprit lately. It took almost the 1st mile to run thrugh it until it was totally relaxed. I was bummed. Mile 3 felt really good and I finished strong (for me).
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate better during bike, and start taking better mix of nutrients.
Post race
Warm down:

Light strectching. Leg tightened up pretty fast after race - should have got a massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim technique and calf issues.

Event comments:

It was a great event, I just struggle more than I thought I would on the swim/run.

Oh yeah, why don't they make all the clydes weigh in?? There were several guys who didn't look anywhere near 200 lbs....whats up with the skinny guys????

Swimming
00:27:12 | 1000 yards | 02m 43s / 100yards
Age Group: 0/
Overall: 35/36
Performance: Bad
Suit: Full wetsuit - Ironman stealth
Course: Wave start, run into water, swim 200 yds out, then 600yds paralel to beach, then 200 in. The water was insanely choppy. I felt like I was swimming in a blender. I felt seasick in the middle of the swim. It sucked and I was hurting when I came out of the water... Also, it was too choppy to swim backstroke when I got tired. ALso, can a brother just catch a wave when he needs one.....???
