HAPPY NEW YEAR!

to all triathletes in Alberta hope you achieve all your goals and maybe we will see each other at some races.

why don't we post our races in these forums so that way we will know if somebody else will be at a certain race.

my first one will probably be the St Albert 10 mile road race sometime in April.

Here's my plan (so far):

April 14 -- Mount Royal University Sprint Triathlon

June 15 -- Chinook 51.5 Triathon -- First Olympic distance!

July 14 -- Subaru Vancouver Triathlon (Olympic distance)

September 7 -- Subaru Banff Triathlon (sprint distance) -- did this one last year (my first and only tri to date)

Also considering the Granfondo Banff in August but nervous about committing to such a long bike distance...

Probably will add a couple of runs (5K/10K) at some point too.

Hi Fellow Albertans!

My events this year (so far) are:

February 24 - Disney Princess Half Marathon (Florida!)

May 5 - Tri-Diva Tri (Olds)

May 26 - Calgary Half Marathon

June 15 - Chinook Olympic (Calgary)

August 8 - Gran Fondo Rockies - 100km Medio Fondo (Nanton)

May add on the Vancouver Tri Hoos mentioned if we can convince Grandma and Grandpa to watch our kids.  May do the Banff Spring again too but the jury is still out on that one.

Wasa is completely flat. At the turn around on the bike is a little bit of climbing but other than that pretty flat. Nothing like Heart of the Rockies which has a lot of climbing on the bike and run.

I know what you mean on Invermere, I have done it twice now. Love the scenery but the hills right off the bat on both the bike and run. The hill where the pathway begins just about kills me! It seems never ending! Smile

How was the water temperature in the lake? I'm considering either this one or lake Chaparral, but i prefer this one. I want this to be my first Olympic distance!

It was chilly, but nothing a hearty Canadian can't handle.  Smile   Believe it was about 59F on race day.   Definitely need a wetsuit, and your first wade in the water will be cold, no doubt.  But it was fine.  And the scenery was breathtaking -- definitely recommend.

I should note that 2010 was evidently a rough year -- very cold weather + rain (so I heard).  But 2011 and 2012 both picture perfect.

2013local xc series Alberta Masters championships (swimming) Local Half Mary (probably Calgary Police Half) Chinook draft legal sprint Edmonton ITU AG sprint Great White North (70.3 distance) At least one local oly tri and ow swim. Ironman CanadaMaybe Xterra Sport (sprint). I might be cooked from Whistler...2014 is looking very different with a focus on swimming and sprint tri since Masters Worlds for swimming are in Canada for the first time in 20 years and Edmonton will probably be hosting the ITU world championships. Each event has its challenges and training loads. The funny thing is I used to train more volume for a swimming race that lasted 2 minutes than I will for Ironman. Good thing I have 28 years of endurance training under my belt ( started swimming in 1985 and tri in 1988 and have always done something with my longest break being 1 month)

I completely underestimated what double the distance from a sprint really meant.  i finished standing so proud of that.

Look forward to this year. Experience in this sport means a lot.
