OK we are month out.  So who who out there opted to Race the KC Tri?

This will be my first Tri and I will be doing the Sprint. Now that they have posted the Bike course I will will likely try to get out there and ride it in the next couple of weekends.

I will be there doing the oly. A little disappointed about the bike course. I thought there were to many turnarounds on the course. 2 years ago the course was just big loops around the lake. I preferred that.

Oly for me as well.  I second Jon's sentiment about the bike course.  I would like the course if it weren't for the three (3!) tight turnarounds per lap.  6 Total if you do the Oly.

I know marketers will be marketers, but it chaps my backside that they advertised a "new, faster bike course" in their promotional emails and then went back to the same course.

In the end, though, I'm still glad I signed up.  For me, it's still way better than racing portions of the same course twice in a 3 week period.

I'll be there doing the Oly this year too. Although I suppose it's stupid to market a new course and then provide the old one the only real way to make that course faster is to figure out how to take out the big hill. Frankly, I'm just glad they finally put up some bike course whatever it was on the website.

On a different note, what's up with the whole midwest championship thing? Initially I saw it and was psyched that we were having Midwest Regionals here in KC and then realized that isn't what it is at all. Anybody else think it's a bit of a misnomer to call it the midwest championship race when the midwest regional championship is really the region's championship race?

Nit picking I suppose, but oh well.

I was just told the lake is sitting at a chilly 46 deg right now.  I am not racing so hopefully this thing warms up a lot for you guys.

Surprised Uh... what? Even your ice bath isn't supposed to be below 50F. Vaseline powers activate! Form of, gooey mess to keep your face and hands warm. Yeah I'm a nerd just let me stew.

Great! One more nasty reality to worry about before my first tri ;-)

I happen to drive by the lake yesterday while checking out the bike course.  I'm just praying for calm winds, the white caps yesterday did not look inviting.

I hope it warms up ALOT.  I'm actually more concerned about the kids race the Saturday before.  Both of my sons were going to do it, and (unlike me) neither of them have an ounce of fat on them to keep them warm.  Thankfully, I haven't officially signed them up (no early registration discount for IronKids) so we may change our plans.

If anyone else has a flexible job, I am going to go out to Longview and ride two loops and run one loop of the course tomorrow afternoon.

Very tempted but tomorrow is my rest day. If you think about it please report back on road conditions for us to look out for.

I think I remember an email saying something about surfaces being repaved somewhere. I didn't see it. Exact same bike and run as last year. Same route, same pavement. Water looked nice. I am thinking about riding out there again on Friday and walking down to the water to get a feel for the temp.

Jon:If memory serves me it stated that the "hot" turn was paved - I assume that it is the turn on the southern leg of the course as you come down the big hill and turn right onto Raytown road. It seemed like relatively new pavement to me when I drove out there a couple of weeks ago. But again I didn't race last year and don't know if it is better or not.

That is possible. I was more worried about traffic making all of those u turns than the pavement.

I will be in the Sprint race this weekend and decided keep doing the KC Tri vs 5i50.  The KC Tri was my first triathlon so will try to keep using it as my first tri competition of the year.

Water temp is 64 today. If the sun stays out and we dodge the rain it will warm up a few more degrees. Our biggest threat may be rain and lightning on race day. Lets hope it holds off til the afternoon.
