HITS Triathlon Series
72F / 22C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 40m 56s
Overall Rank = 85/209
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 11/21
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3am. Eat breakfast and normal morning routine. Out the door at 4:15 for the 45 minute drive to the event. Arrived right at 5 am, when the tranisition area opened. Got T1/T2 area set up, relaxed.
Event warmup:

Strached out a little in the wetsuit. Got in the water a few minutes before the beach start.
Swim
  • 30m 8s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

On my first lap I got off course. in th middle and slowed me down. My second lap was great as far as the swimming portion. With the out tide, and so much knee deep water, made the swim a little more dificult than anticipated.
What would you do differently?:

I need more practice wetsuit swimming. I didn't have any problems, but that this is an area that has the potential for vast improvement.
Transition 1
  • 03m 39s
Comments:

The transition area was a couple hundred yards from the beach. So departing the beach you had to "run" on a brick siidewalk for about 100 yards and then asphalt the rest of the way, it seemed a long way to run barefoot in a wetsuit. By the time I got to T1, the "kiddie pool" they had set up to rinse fett was virtually empty. This caused me an additional delay ay my T1 spot.
What would you do differently?:

I am not sure. The bottom of my feet are a little sore from running barefoot to get to T1. Logistically, there is no other answer to this specific issue.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 44s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

A slight headwind on the way out. I could have gone a little harder, but very nice route.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little harder. Really happy with my bike effort overall.
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I got a little flustered at T2, wetsuit in the way of running shoes. The T1/T2 set up spots had little boxes to keep everything in, with the wetsuits it made it a little tight. That being said, no issues at all with neighbors gear.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, ...maybe no more wetsuit events?
Run
  • 55m 13s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run course, flat with the exception of a couple Florida hills (bridges), although small ones at that. I have a hard time pacing myself without music. I ended up pacing myself properly and had a great run.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go a little harder on the run. But just a little, I am really happy with my performance of the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, shade and a chair.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My internal engine.

Event comments:

An absolutely wonderful event. I definately recommend the HITS series.

Nice job out there, very solid performance all the way around.  I'm traveling to Naples this week so maybe I'll consider this race next year.  Was the water still warm enough to swim without a wetsuit?  I don't remember what 70 degrees feels like.

I was in the race as well and pretty much had the same issues. My run was terrible but the swim and bike was the best I have ever done in an Olympic. It was alot of fun and a great place to race. Good job. You going to do Hits Ocala by any chance? If you are hope to see you there.
