haha 3:00 last year maybe, this year will be 5 min if they're lucky. I would HIGHLY recommend shoes stationed at swim exit. We will email you all more about that later. Find a pair you don't care about that will do the job to help you run the 1/2 and not tip toe on the pavement. Shoes are WORTH IT.

Thanks for the advice.   Alternatively, I am just going to work on my swim technique and fitness and hope I beat the guy to shore who actually put a pair of size 12 running shoes at the swim exit.  Who says you can't win a triathlon on the swim leg.

I did a 2mile run on pavement in last summer baerfooted.

Run a pretty good pace, but had blisters for 2 weeks.

Think for Kemah 2014 I might train my barefoot on asphalt running skills.

Hey wacky idea:

Is it against the rules to wear vibram 5-fingers on the swim?

If not I could waer them to the boat, in the water and ont eh way to T1.

Anyone know what the expected water temperature is going to be in Kemah this weekend? I was expecting mid 70s so had no plan on using a wetsuit but I imagine this cold weather is not helpng the water temperature. I am a pretty strong swimmer so have never swam in a wetsuit before. What would be the minimum temperature where a wetsuit would be a virtual necessity? I'm entered in the olympic distance tri.

Looks like it is around 68 right now: http://www.seatemperature.org/north-america/united-states/kemah.htm

How cold is too cold is a personal call.  I swam at a lake yesterday and it was cooler than I would have wanted to swim in without a wetsuit, but it wouldn't hurt.

Personally I'd suggest renting a wetsuit at one of the local shops (Tru Tri, Tri on the Run, Bike Barn etc) or online from Wetsuit Rentals.com (but rush order).

Then if you can't get in the water durring the week go by Sylvan Beach in LaPorte on the way to Kemah on Saturday and do a quick swim with, and without.  Then you can decide what way to go.

I plan on a little training session on Saturday (10min swim - 20min bike - 10min run).

Is there a location recommendation for this?

Or the chance to hop in the water after the Sprint is done?

I spent a lot of time looking for a place to get in the water near Kemah 2 years ago.  The closest I found was Sylvan beach in LaPorte.

I'm going to do something like that on my way to the race.... probably some transition practice.....

run 2 mins, Mount bike, ride 2 mins, dismount, repeat 5 times..

I hate to be the black cloud but this is going to be mayhem.  First guy that takes someone elses shoes is going to cause the dominoes to fall.  Wonder if I can bike lock my shoes to the fence somehow.

FYI, shoes aren't one size fits all. Pretty sure people aren't going to take random shoes. This is all a bit too dramatic. We are not the first race to do this. It's not that complicated. In over 6 years of race directing and 10 years of doing tris I've never seen grown men get so worked up about an extra 1/4 mile of running. It's cracking me up.

NICE!

I thought about putting a blinky light on my shoes to help me find them...

Luckily I doubt anyone would take size 14 worn out reboof realflex shoes, LOL!

So many choices of shoes in the bag:

  • Pink Bunny Slippers
  • Boat shoes
  • Heels?

Sounds like a good solution.

Saw the email this morning and it looks like you have put a lot of thought into how to do this in an organized manner.  First info on it I saw was "just leave your shoes inside the fence" thus my comment about potential for mayhem.

You'd look good in some of Tab's heels.  IJS.

I think my feet are a bit too big.... but sadly I would probably not be any slower or less stable on or off heels after coming out of the water.

Anyone knows if I need to pick up my packet before I go to the Athlete briefing?

Or better can I schlepp my family to the athlete briefing and then pick up my packet afterwards?

Saturday was my first triathlon and I'd like to say thank you to Onurmark Productions for putting on a well-organized race. I'll be back next year for sure.

Big thanks for using TriTats. Taking care of body marking the night before lowered my anxiety about arriving in time to get in line for body marking and getting my transition area setup in time.

It did not go so well for me on Sunday. The rain canx the bike and moved some times around. Long story short I never got out of the car in kemah. I was very disappointed I had a lot invested in that race. Now not sure we're to sign up next? Any suggestions of comming up races still open?

We wish you would have got out of that car, it was still a heck of a good time and a huge party after. Weather happens, it's what we choose to do when it does, that matters. On the other hand we didn't have even one extra spot on the boat since so many still showed.

Why exactly was the bike canceled?

There had been rumors about the police forcing you to cancel it, as well as flooded streets further south?

At the race venue it sure seemed that the road are well enough for the bike.
