Subject: Saddle Problems = Prostate Problems

Good Morning: I could use a little advice about a sensative subject.  At the spry young age of 41, I've started to experience problems with my prostate.  I've been to the doctor a few times and they have ruled out cancer but haven't figured the cause of my "enlarged prostate".  Yesterday, I rode my bike and the pain is greater today.  So, I want to be proactive and find a solution to the problem.

So, does any one have any solutions?  I'm thinking 1) new bike seat, 2) riding shorts, 3) maybe a different angle for my seat.  Can anyone think of anything else?  Do you have any suggestions of which types/brands would be best?

Thanks for your advice.

DQ

Have you had a bike fit?

I'd start there and talk about your issue with fitter.

It may be position on bike or you made need a new saddle with relief in a certain spot.

I live in Boston area and know many of the fitters if you'd like some input, pm me if you would. I think I have worked with 5 different fitters over the years.

Good advice from Kathy.....also, what seat are you riding now?  Adamo and SMP line are very good for the issue you spoke of.

I don't have any real knowledge on this issue, but I would say that is NOT something you want to mess with. If its hurting i would cut it out until they have figured out what the problem is at the Doc's.

What fixed my biking problems there was an Adamo saddle, proper fitting bike shorts and a professional fit.  all three things helped.  the saddle was the most effective followed by the bike fitting and then the shorts.  I was considering dropping this sport because of the bike issues i was having.  now it is no problem.

good luck.

cheers

I am trying the Cobb V flow as well ISM adamo road saddles. Both have helped me. Fit, angle, etc are key. Good luck.

Saddles with cutouts in the middle are what you need.

I've got a Selle Italia SLC on my roadie, and a Profile Design tri-stryke (there's one with a cutout, and one without) on my Tri bike.

no more pressure problems.

I personally found the Adamo a little to wide (YMMV).  The Cobb's look great.  Never tried one, but every time I look at them they just look like they would work.

This is good advice IMO.  IF you find the Adamo a little to wide, I might suggest what I did for my GFs saddle.  I took two nylon wire ties around the rails and squeezed the nose of her Adamo Prolog a little narrower.  She is completely satisfied with the Adamo now.  I use the Adamo Breakaway and it is perfect for me.

PS--if you still have discomfort "down there" after trying what others posted, STOP RIDING until the problem is solved.  Prostrate surgery CAN adversely affect erections.   :-((((((((

Hope this helps

I had professional bike fit and it made an unbelievable difference.  They put on the adams saddle and I love that thing - no pressure on my stuff.

You should definitely look into different kinds of seats. You don't want to in anyway exacerbate the prostate but instead read Super Beta Prostate reviews and see how it can help you reduce your symptoms and keep riding. It's a natural supplement that has no side-effects and really works.

Psuross92's example really explains it well.

Many saddle issues are not that at all... they're bike fit issues. Unless you have a good bike fit to start with, you shouldn't start to swap out saddle until you find something you can tolerate... that usually ends up costing $100's if not $1000's... why do you think there's so many used saddles (but barely used) saddles for sale?
