I've only been in the area for 6 months or so, and i've got to be honest...I'm sick of the silver comet. Its great and all but I need a change. I don't do a lot of group rides because im training for IMTX and need to spend all my time on my TT bike.

I live in virginia highlands and like riding through the city and to stone mountain...but not for long rides.

Suggestions? Also, anyone else out there doing long (60-90mile) rides that needs a buddy? I'm typically 17-19mph avg.

Just because you're training for IM TX does not mean you can't do group rides now.  That's not till May 18th.  That being said, pretty much every group ride can be found here: www.sadlebred.com/atlroadrides

2) You can find great ride time in Carterville (Bud Plant Parking Lot).  There are 15, 31, 48 & 66 mile loops.  Good rolling hills out there.

3) Many people like Stone Mountain

I haven't been on the comet in well over 3 years.  I, personally, feel it's a mindless place to ride.  But it's super convenient for most.

Somebody will have to help me out with exact directions, but there is a parking area with bathrooms and a changing area up near the Budweiser plant.  If I remember correctly, you turn right off the exit, then instead of turning right to go to the plant, you turn left.  I think there is another turn as well, but, again, can't remember since I wasn't driving at the time.

I do my long rides in the direction of Lake Lanier (East side).  There are enough hills but not too many and there are gas stations spread around so you can re-stock with water when you run out.  There are major road near by so getting to a start point is fast but there are enough backroads that you can ditch the traffic once you get going.  I plan to ride around LL for my long rides prior to IMLouisville.

silk sheets in West GA, 11-100 mile routes of pretty and safe country roads and tons of cyclists... 20 min west down I-20.   Use Boundary Waters Aquatic Center which is one mile from the start of the sheets route as basecamp.  Full Oyl pool, locker rooms, showers AND 10 miles of paved and unpaved trails to run for your brick....
