Comments: The first three miles were the best run I've had in a long time, since I am a downhill specialist. I walked the uphill sections (bad hammy) which was most of the last half of the race. It was a fun day, and I don't think I did much damage to the hams. Not as much as I expected, anyway. It is fun to run with so many people cheering you on, TV cameras and helicopters everywhere, firefighters on cherrypickers overhead, flags hanging over the course, live statues of liberties walking the route and bands playing all along the way. It was a fun day, I'll do it again, hopefully without limping home to lick my wounds the next time. I have one complaint, the water at the first station I stopped at, which I think was the second station, tasted terrible to me. I went without the rest of the way, which left me vulnerable to temptation when someone in the crowd tried to hand me a cold can of beer (Coor's Light, I think), but I passed. What would you do differently?: Be healthy, dress for success. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked to the t-shirt retreival area, then to my rendevous point, then to the car. That seemed like a mile or so. What limited your ability to perform faster: Injury. Last updated: 2006-07-04 12:00 AM

Laundry problem left me frantically searching for clothes and then I left my watch at home. I didn't really need it, there were start and finish clocks and people yelling out the race time along the course. I also ended up running in my tennis/golf shorts but that wasn't a problem until well after the race ended. That problem was solved commando style.
Walked to the race area, maybe 1/4 mile from where we got out of the car. There were signs advising you where to go by race number, 40,000-49,999 left, 50,000-59,999 right. It was a big race. I stood in the porta potty line with about 10,000 people thinking I was with my race group for about 10 minutes, then went to the right place to wait until my group was moved to the starting line.
