Subject: Thoughts on the open water swim @ the end of april?
I was thinking about entering the Iron nugget tri at the end of april but I am curious if the swim will be overy hard due to our lingering winter weather.  I was curious of other's experience and thoughts on it before I register.

I am not sure that the temperature of the water will make it any harder.  Water is water 

That being said, given the temperatures of the past 30 days, I expect all May races to be cooler than normal.  I'd plan on using a wetsuit.  If you are concerned about the temperature being really cold, they make neoprene hats that cover your head and ears.  Those are really popular in cold water swims. 

I am keeping my fingers crossed that we all can start swimming in open water by the end of April.  I'll be testing the water temperature myself in about 2 weeks.  But I can tell you that my creek, last weekend, was really far from being swim ready temperature.

I just swam in low 60 waters in Ocala, FL.  The day before the race I did get in without a wetsuit and it was brutally cold.  Tolerable but cold.  For my race I wore a full sleeve wetsuit and a DeSoto neoprene cap sandwich and felt perfect for the entire time.

Andrew - can you post here if you know of any OWS sessions in the Nashville area in mid-to-late April?  I want to get in open water a couple times prior to Rev3 Knoxville on May 5.

XTERRA Hickory Knob in SC had 49 degree water March 23rd. Swim shortened to 350 yards. I'll have temps posted on web site for Acorn Lake in next few weeks. See last years results for Iron Nugget & Dickson Endurance - water was 73-74 last year. I expect it to be 68-70 this year.
