Subject: biking in the gym
hey guys, i am really new at triathlon. i've been running nearly 1h40 every day for the last couple of months or so. my goal is to be able to complete a sprint every day. however, since i don't own a bike, i was planning on using the static bikes at the gym. but they are killers, since there is no inertia on them. does anybody know if there is a ratio in training on a static bike vs riding a real life bike?
please let me know.

Train the same distance(or time) and intensity as you would on an actual bike. The bikes at the gym don't have inertia, but they don't have hills either.

Think of it as swinging a weighted bat.

Oh, you're going to need a real bike eventually ;-)

You never get a nice gusty headwind on the bike trainers, either.

I do the same time and distance on the indoor bikes, but I'm always overjoyed to get back outside.

I bike alot in the gym because of the convienence. My one piece of advice is to pump up the reisistance as much as you can. It'll help oh so much when you get out on the road and have to attack those hills

cheers
