A young girl (H.S. freshman) from our hometown committed suicide a couple of days ago.  The statements reported were that she had depression and anxiety for quite awhile, added to that she reported of being bullied.  According to the news, the parents had her in counseling, too.

No, I do not know the girl or knew anything about her until I heard the news.  She was a year younger than my eldest son and a year older than my second son.  They may have met her sometime while growing up.  My second son took the news a little hard when it was heard at school.  Because it affected him, it affected me.

It is so troubling to hear of potentially great kids having to resort to such drastic actions.

Whatever it takes, tell that special someone that you know that you love them dearly.

I don't know how big the school is that your sons attend, or even how big your town is, but keep your eye on the kids in the next month or so....and have discussions with others about kids who may be in a similar situation.  I hate that I know this, but it would not be that odd for another kid or even more to try or do the same thing.  I've seen it happen twice (suicides that follow each other).

Just a word of caution.

. Thanks. My wife and I are always asking questions and "staying in tune" with our sons.

cheekymonkeys1 - 2013-04-05 10:00 PMSo sad, but I'm glad to see it being talked about. My father took his life a few years back, my mother has suffered from serious depression issues for many years. Recently my sister and my brother have gone on meds and sadly, having been off depression meds myself for some 6 years, I have recently made an appt to see my psych to go back on. The old demons are back. Thanks for posting.
. Please continue seeking assistance if you are facing any issues! Let us know of your progress, too.

Thank you so much for posting this. Unfortunately the statistics bear you out, especially in schools and also in families.
