Elite Veteran 748 northern Illinois | Subject: RE: What's your training like? My schedule is never the same from week to week, so it's hard to plan out like that. However, across a week I TRY to get in all of the following: yoga: 6 sessions Pilates: 1 session swimming: 3 sessions running: 2 sessions biking: 2 sessions (one short and fast and one long and slow) weights: 3 sessions (one upper body, one lower body, and one total body) "extra" cardio: up to 2 sessions, but no obligation here. These are usually step classes, just because I like them. Where it falls apart is the weights and the running. I can almost always come up with "perfectly valid" excuses for skipping those workouts. Today has both running and weight work. Will I skip EVERYTHING???? I won't! I really, really won't! Andrea |

As of now, I am just working out in the evenings. (except Saturday and Sunday). Not necessarily, It's all up to you. I want to do an Ironman next year and my current schedule is a test to see if I can put workouts into the morning and lunch hours and 1) still get work done 2)Not kill myself. |

Master 1967 | Subject: RE: What's your training like? My schedule tends to change based on work, but for the most part I try to follow this: Monday - Off Tuesday - Run (5miles) Wednesday - Swim (2400 yds - 900 yd long swim) Thursday - Run (5 miles) Friday - Run (5 miles) Saturday - Ride (15 - 20 miles) or brick (12 mile ride - 3 mile run) Sunday - Ride (15 - 20 miles) I hope to increase the distances over the summer. (Time permitting) Definitely work in a rest day. It is key. Bill |

Expert 1166 Colchester, CT | Subject: RE: What's your training like? Kim: I'm training for my first, most likely a sprint. The reason my run and bike are so high, are because I just came off an 18 week marathon program with a bunch of weeks over 50 miles, so I'm really fit from all that running, which is translating rather nicely into the bike fitness. As far as the swim, well like I tell my wife, every day I'm at the pool and I dont' drown, I consider it an achievement Good Luck Chris |

Elite Veteran 748 northern Illinois | Subject: RE: What's your training like? I'm training for a sprint. But if you're impressed by MY training, then you have the wrong picture in your head! I can swim long, but not fast. I can bike forever, but not fast. And I can run hardly at all. Today I ran a mile, walked a mile, then ran another one. Seriously, the time difference between the walking and the "running" was negligible. The weights I lift are light. I'm a weenie. The only thing I'm actually decent at is yoga, and last time I checked that wasn't part of the triathlon! Andrea |

Expert 1180 Iowa | Subject: RE: What's your training like? I am doing three sprints and a Half IM. Here is my addiction (I mean schedule): Mon: Run 5 miles in the morning, lift weights at night. Tuesday: Bike 20 miles in the morning, swim 1 to 1.5 miles at night. Wed: Run 5 miles in the am, lift weights in the eve. Th: Bike 20 miles in the morning, swim 1 to 1.5 at night Fri: Run 5 Sat: Bike 50 Sun: Run 8 -12 miles If I'm tired I take a day off. If I feel good and have the time, I will do a bike/run brick. For the last 5 months I am averaging: 125 bike miles per month, 70 running miles, and 9 swimming miles. It feels like a lot, but looks kind of paltry. Have fun, whatever you do! |

Otherwise I will likely do another Sprint then. Bill |

New user 12 Rochester, MN | Subject: RE: What's your training like? Well, I am training for my first spring (it's 2 weeks away!!) I've been following the 3X Balanced training program on the beginner triathlete website (http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/Programs/16wksprint3x.htm). This was an excellent plan for me since it didn't have me running very far distances (cuz I suck at running). For the most part, here's my schedule: Monday - Short run (20-25 min) Tuesday - am short swim (20 min) + pm short bike (45 min) Wednesday - Medium run (30-35 min) Thursday - am medium swim (25 min) + pm medium bike (60 min) Friday - pm long run (40 min) Saturday - Off Sunday - Long bike (90 min) + Long swim (35 min) I also try and do some weights and abs twice a week (squeeze it in during lunch or at night) and I play softball and volleyball 3 times a week. Whew! Since I'm still working on my running, I adhere to the 10% rule. I try and atleast once a week do some speed training on the treadmill where I vary my speeds for 2 miles (working up to about 7.5 mph). I found that I've been able to get my mile times down with this method. |

Regular 88 | Subject: RE: What's your training like? I hate my workout schedule I can't wait to have some rest at the end of the season my unspoken coach doesn't beleive in rest days so I sneak them in. Mondays - swim - 300m warm up concentrate on stoke lengthening and reaching and follow through steady breathing 3X300 with 15 seconds of rest between - try to be consistent with time Tuesdays Long Run - 12 miles + or - a few depending on week - around the Charles River its so peaceful in the morning Wednesday Active Recovery Day - 1-2 hours of Endurance Spinning Thursday Swim/Run - 1 mile open water swim (scary lake so work on not being freaked out), and 3 mile run at race pace if possible Friday- Sleep in YEAH Do whatever I want - I'd like it to be a Track day and work on Speed, but to be honest that hasn't happened yet. I'm not too motivated on Fridays. Saturday - Race Day or Mock Tri Mock Tri = 1 mile swim in yucky scary lake 30 mile bike ride - race pace!!!! 6 mile run - race pace! which is slow as a slug after all that swimming and biking Sunday -Active Recovery short run or bike - endurance zone In October i am going to train for the Sleepy Time Olympics - that's right I want to be a professional sleeper no more waking up at 4am until next spring |
