I have a 2010 P3 and am looking to shed some weight on the handlebars. It came with the AL Vision setup so was looking for any suggestion for an economical Carbon Fiber upgrade.

I have no suggestions on upgrades, but I am curious... what are you hoping to gain by shedding a couple grams of weight?

Carbon fiber is not necessarily lighter than aluminum... especially when you start looking at more of a budget alternative. The benefits of carbon fiber is that you can design the shapes for aerodynamic reasons, it does reduce road vibrations (although that is in general over rated when it comes to components...), and it can be made strong in a given direction and flex in another, allowing for certain degrees of comfort. Mind you, these are not cheap to design.

When it comes to tri bikes, aerodynamics and especially the riders position (which is really what makes it aerodynamic) is the key... not weight.

FWIW- This is what I ride on my P3- not sure what it will save you in weight, but it allowed me to get into a more aero position, is a bit narrower as well.

My main issue was picking my bike off the rack the handlebars can tork to one side and the pointy extrusion on the FSA AL bars would swing around and "ding" the top tube. I was hoping the lighter weight (and material) would prevent this. Ended up picking up a used set of 3T Auro Pro CF bars/extensions off eBay for a nice price. Now looking at the prospect of swapping it out.. DIY or LBS?

It's really easy if you know what you're doing and have the tools (cable cutters, etc.). If not, leave it to the LBS

I'm pretty sure Vison still makes the carbon fiber base bar... it's what I'm running on my bike now
