From the map on the website it looks like a 1 transition race. You will start the run up the hill, and start the second loop up the hill. The finish looks like it is about 3/4s of the way through the second loop, so you dont actually go back down the hill to the transition. I havent actually mapped out the course to see the distance, but that is what it looks like. Now, picking up your gear at the bottom of the hill will suck after the race. Dont pack to much or leave anything in your car on the way down.

I put an estimate of the course together and to get even close to 6 miles I had to place the run start really close to the swim exit. Maybe there's another loop in the park area that's not shown. If I use the same transition exit as the 70.3 course (bike exit) then the course is way short, at 5.7 miles. Looks to me like we're running up that little hill only twice.

I think Jon is correct. Each loop does not backtrack on itself like in the KS 70.3 where your run around the capsite then turnaround and run around it in the opposite direction. I think you run up the hill from T1/2 turn into the campground, run around its perimeter counterclockwise, exit back out onto the outer road and run down to T1/2, then back up the hill and around the perimeter of the campground again, but turn left into the finish chute to end the race. If each full loop, including doubling back on itself in the campground is 6.1 miles in the KS 70.3, then I think Jon and I have it right for 6.1 miles in the 5150.

Reece, they might be able to add enough distance depending on where the do "Run Out" in the transition area. Or, they could easily do it by adding another wrinkle in the southern area of the campground. That extra little area of roads might allow for enough distance.

Yes but the Alek's point, this is not Rocket Science. We're 5 weeks away, get the up to date course up, that at least looks like it's 6.2 miles. Strap on a Garmin, run Strava on your iPhone whatever and get it done. Tons of triathletes around here that would volunteer to map out the course. Took me 10 minutes to run it up on mapmyrun. I know there's more to setting up a run course than just mapping it up with software, you've got race day obstacles, course logistics whatever but the RD's been doing this awhile and the course IS part of IMKS 70.3 which has been running for a few years......

But I doubt we'll be doing that hill 3x.

Totally agree, Reece. Totally agree. By the way, do you want to split a campsite for the 5150 race? Jon and I are splitting one for KS 70.3, but I don't have anything yet for the 5150 race. Kind of want to avoid the hassle of parking way out in the parking field east of the campgrounds if I can get a pass to a spot inside the campground. May or may not sleep there that night, but at least have a place reserved no matter what I decide to do.

I'm with Reece on this one, I managed to map just over 6 miles assuming the run out of T2 is on the south side (which gives a nice flow through transition), although this would make the sprint longer than advertised.

As long as we're speculating over miss-information, does anyone know if transition spots will be assigned?

Agreed, IMKS 70.3 has been great the last two years. Specially 2011 when I got to spend some time with Chrissie W!

This. I have been pretty frustrated that there is no bike course out yet for KC. I've never done the KC Tri...but hasn't it been in the same location since...it's existence? You'd think they would have had that finalized by now.

They modified it last year to accommodate the huge increase in athletes. I suspect the numbers will be back were they were in previous years. So it will probably go back to the way it was. Pretty simple loops really. There aren't many other ways to configure the course.

I do not get 6.2 nor 6 per description, more 5.5-5.7mi.Jahox, I understand there is no doubling back, got it, just a loop on perimeter. Than you go on to mention that with doubling back you get 6.1. I do get one transition race with separate race finish line in the campgrounds. If we are climbing the hill twice for 1 and 3/4 loop without going down second time, the course is short big time. If we do go down second time than course has to finish down in t1/2 to make the distance. 3rd climb would make race long.So I am still confused.

Sorry, that was sloppy of me. I meant on the KS 70.3 course, you get 6.1 by doubling back through the campground on each loop, but that also included an additional leg out to the east that adds another 1.5 miles or so that is not on the 5150 course.

Oh, and the 5150 race had assigned transition spots last year based on your race number, so I would hope they do the same this year.

Jon: They had a bike course up for awhile then took it down...I don't think it was last years course b/c it didn't take you north down the hill towards 470. Seems they took it down right before they announced the new RD. I will be there as well and am eager to see how they lay it out.

They are obviously using last years web page, as the wave times are still up from lasts years race. I remember seeing the bike course, and if my memory serves me correctly, it was the same bike course as two years ago. Fine by me asi liked it better because it does not have all the turnarounds. I guess they are waiting for permits to be finalized before they make any announcement. The run course is within the park, so permits aren't a big issue.
