I'm in for the Oly.  It kicked my butt last year, and I want vengeance.

I'd say that this counts as good as an "official" thread.

I'm in for only the sprint. FrownI can't shake a bug with the up and down weather we have been having so training is way off. That's Ohio.

The swim is a two-loop rectangle, counter-clockwise.

Run up a hill/stairs to T1.

The bike is also a two-loop course, mostly flat with two real hills near the end of each loop.

The run is pretty much pancake flat with a short section (perhaps 100-200 yards) crossing over some grass as you run across the top of the dam.

Bike route:  http://www.mapmyfitness.com/routes/view/35112628

Run route: http://www.mapmyfitness.com/routes/view/2429375

Ignore the dips in the run route. That is the elevation for the road along that area, but we don't follow the road there, we go across the top of the dam.

Thanks for posting those.  I have a friend who is doing this as his first triathlon and had been looking for those to send to him!

You're totally welcome!

FYI: The Sprint course is the same on the bike, just one lap, and the turnaround on the run isn't as far out.  Also just one lap on the swim.  Otherwise, the courses are identical.

Yep.  There's a bunch of us going who just haven't replied here.  It's a great one for the start of the season.  This race always seems to have a good headwind/crosswind, but never any tailwind.  I'm thinking the water may be a bit chilly this year thanks to the weather we've been having.

I'm thinking the water temperature may be a little nippy.  Yuck!  I don't know if Columbus weather is similar to Cleveland's, but it's been pretty hot then cold around here.

I'm excited to do this race.  I've heard great things about it.  Figured it would be a great way to start of the triathlon season.

I'm thinking that the water will be kind of nice, actually.  I thought that it was a little TOO warm last year, and with as hot as May was last year, it's no wonder why.

I'm hoping that with my full sleeved suit, that the water will be just about perfect.... just warm enough to not mess with my ears or cause shock when I put my face in.

In any case, I'm really looking forward to this race.

Robin,

I have not trained at all and I'm really out of shape. Do you think I should do this one?

Hahahaha!  Welcome back!  Let me answer your question with a question: Are you alive?  If that answer is yes, than I will definitely see you racing Deer Creek.  And be sure to hand out plenty of free hugs per the "Free May Training Triathlon" directives from a few years back.

Oh- and be sure to break out the pink shimmer. Surprised

Last time I checked the water temp it was 64 ouch!!!! Would HFP cancel the swim if it is too cold? Last fall it was 70 and it was painfully cold.

I don't think swims get cancelled until the water temp is like 51 or below.

64 is chilly, but not that bad with a wetsuit.... the weather is warming up and we've got two weeks to go.  With enough sunny days, I think it might get up to 70 by race day.

I saw a post on Facebook where the water temp was up to 68 as of Tuesday.  With the heat wave that is (finally!) rolling in, we just might get to 70 by Sunday, but if not, 68 is still pretty good.

I'm getting excited for this one, and a little nervous... I haven't done any bike or swim training since March, lol.  This is going to be interesting.

I am right there with you on over trained. Got Bronchitis 3 weeks ago and still haven't fully recovered. I was so looking forward to this race 4 weeks ago. Now I just hope to survive it.

Hope to see you there. Looks like you and I have similar race schedules this year. Would like to do age group national championships and was hoping to qualify at Deer Creek this weekend, but doesn't look like that is going to happen now.

Checking the forecast, the weather isn't looking too favorable.  Calling for some thunderstorms through Sunday afternoon.

Good luck to all that are racing! I will be thinking of you while I'm in O Chem lab Sunday am. Yes I will be mixing volatile chemicals while you will be mixing it up on the course.

Have fun and don't forget to smile for the race photos!

I'm taking my bike out on the roads in a few to do a short recovery ride, and then we're off to Columbus. Weather forecast doesn't look pretty. My coach told me to focus on the things I can control and not the things I can't, so I'm going to try to remove the thoughts of running in the rain from my mind

I'll be wearing a Sonic Endurance team kit. My name is Jen. I would love to meet some of you!!

Thoughts on the race??? I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, but it was my first tri of the season. Lots of work to be done before my IM.

I met Robin briefly. I saw her on the run course. You are a speedster, Robin!!! I'm sorry I didn't get to meet the rest of you. We had to take off right after my race to relieve my ILs. They watched my 4 kids for 24 hours. It's also a 2 1/2 hour drive home. Right hamstring didn't like the drive one bit.

13 mph on flat road = lots of wind. That was horrible. I was so happy to get off the bike after that. Once I found my groove on the run, I was in my "happy place". The swim was tough, too! You couldn't escape the waves! Good job, everybody!

It was so nice to finally meet you, jarvy!!!! It took us long enough!
