Veteran 671 Harrison, Oh | Subject: Any Marathon Maniacs here? I ran the Kentucky Derby Marathon this past weekend and noticed A LOT of Marathon Maniac shirts/jackets/tattoos. That got me thinking about how many BT folks may be Maniacs as well. Maniac #1853, Iridium (4 Star) level, here. I "joined" by running two Marathons in two days . Any other Maniacs out there? If so, what got you "in"? |

I went to the website and all I can say is more power to you. Unfortunately that this point in my life, I don't think my body would hold up. It took me a month to recover from an IM in January, so I will just take my hat off to you. |

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: Any Marathon Maniacs here? The Maniacs were out in full force at a marathon I did recently. I think many of the original guys were there. I talked to a lot of them and they sure enjoy what they do. It is not about speed but participation and camaraderie. I've thinking of joining as I did 3 in 3 months last year with 9 lifetime. The 50 State challenge would be an amazing accomplishment but I'd have to be retired to make that one happen. |

Veteran 671 Harrison, Oh | Subject: RE: Any Marathon Maniacs here? Glad to see some Maniacs out there! I first read about the Maniacs in Dean Karnazes book "Ultra Marathon Man". I was intrigued. Then, my first attempt at IM ended in a DNF when my gear cable snapped at mile 45 (I tried to make it in, but missed the time cut-off by 13 minutes). I was devastated. Anyway, because of all that training, and no run (my favorite); I decided to do something crazy and run the two marathons in two days ~ my entry into the Maniacs. I'm intrigued by the 50 States and see someone at almost every marathon with a 50 States Club shirt on. That's an impressive goal (and costly, I would imagine...LOL). Good luck to all that attempt it! |

Not sure how old you are but I am 50 and just became a maniac last year at age 50. I am alos on a running streak and am at 526 days in row and not that low mileage either. I am over 1300 mile so far this year so you could do it. You do not have to be fast just finish is all.
I am going to go for the 50 states myself but have a ways to go. I am at 9 right now having only run 10 marathons and 2 ultras so far in my life and all of them are after I turned 46. I have state number 10 coming up next month. |

Then the 30 dollars membership. Looks like they verify the info and send you the sign up info. After that they charge you. That is what it looks like, I might be wrong. |

(BQ'd way back in the 35-39 AG) When I was in my 30's and early 40's, this would have been doable physically, just didn't have the time with raising a son, work, Navy, etc. Now I have the time, but not sure what my body would do. I would love to do the 50 states challenge though. Next year I plan on doing it up big in my new age group, so I just have to decide if I am concentrating on Tri's or marathon. Thanks for the encouragement though. |

Veteran 256 | Subject: RE: Any Marathon Maniacs here? A couple of years ago I ran the Twin Cities Marathon (which was wonderful BTW!). A week or so later, I was feeling so good physically and mentally that I decided at the last minute to run the Detroit Marathon since I had plans to go to Michigan anyway. I had no plans to qualify for MM beforehand, but I was feeling so good, why not? Bill |

Navy huh, I am a retired BTC. What did you do while you served? I just got another BQ earlier this year and I ran Boston last year but did not get a BQ last year so I was not there this year. Good luck with training and I am sure you will get your BQ. |

I was lucky enough to be around when they started detailing women to carriers and was the first female department head of a West Coast carrier. Interesting times and great (but hard) work. Thanks again for the encouragement and now I am focused like a laser beam. |
