  • 03m 57s / 100 meters
Comments:

My first open water swim. Water was 55 degrees... Cold enough for the organizers to drop the distance from 1500 to 1000. I had a really tough time, my hr was going crazy, I couldn't sight or swim straight to save my life and the lake was so murky I couldn't even see my hands. The kyakers were kind enough to spot me... Considering I was clearly the last in the lake.

What would you do differently?:

Practice OWS, practice spotting and swimming blindly.

Had to visit the port-a-john.
Bike

Comments:

I did surprisingly well on the bike, even over those monster hills. I've never trained on hills and this course had 5 that were tough, three were over 9% grade. I even forgot my GUs and had to take my aero bars off because I had a missing plug.

What would you do differently?:

Bring my GUs and Aerobars.
Transition 2

Comments:

Nothing interesting.
Run
  • 1h 05m 16s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Tired from the bike; my first race run without music made it tough. Passed three dudes during the run... And then I ran in the 'run out' and two caught up before I realized. I knew I still beat them ;) and finished strong.

What would you do differently?:

Finish in the 'Run In' lane.

Congratulations on your race!  I was one of the guys you passed towards the end of the run.  It was a great day with awesome conditions for a Lubbock race.  We plan to go back in June and beat our time!  I had not heard that they shortened the swim but i do know that the course was not the same as it was in years past.  I was also glad to get out of the water!
