Cooperstown, New York
United States
ATC Endurance, LLC
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 04m 19s
Overall Rank = 5/198
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/21
Event warmup:

Ran up hill a couple times, nothing major, just getting the HR up a little bit.
Run
  • 09m 32s
  • 1.5 miles
  • 06m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

This was fast paced and had a pretty major hill in it. Thought my pacing was pretty good considering what was coming up on second run.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe slightly faster.
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Ground was just soaking wet from 5 days of nonstop raining. Decided to not have my shoes clipped in hoping that would save my feet a little bit of dampness.
What would you do differently?:

Put my bike closer to the transition exit. Lost a lot of time because of this but there were puddles everywhere!
Bike
  • 34m 4s
  • 12.2 miles
  • 21.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Think I could have pushed a bit harder on this if I wanted to. Think I had more energy than I was really expecting.

When I got off the bike I was in 5th place.
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

Once again because of how wet everything was I decided to stay clipped. Making my bike dismount rather slow but that's ok.
Run
  • 19m 20s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

WOW! Was feeling awesome for this portion of the race. Could really feel all the practice of the BRBRBR's I've been doing.

My splits were:
1. 6:49
2. 6:36
3. 5:55

The climbs in mile 1 were horrible! But the downhills helped make up the time in mile 3.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure anything...
Post race
Event comments:

They had a lot of problems come up that were out of their control and I thought they did a very good job dealing with them.

Would recommend an ATC race to anyone.

Speedy! Congrats.

I visited Cooperstown once to see the Hall of Fame. I think the highlight of the trip was visiting the Foo Kin restaurant, though. Is that still there?

Thanks!

I don't know if it's still there to be honest. It rained all weekend so there wasn't much looking around.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
