Total Time = 1h 30m 58s
Overall Rank = 21/92
Age Group = n.a
Age Group Rank = 0/
Swim
  • 13m 58s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was a good effort for a first attempt at open water swiming. Ended up swimming away from the pack but my sighting seemed to be ok so I didn't worry too much about it.
What would you do differently?:

Sight the bouys a little more frequently and probably could have maintained a little better line through the swim. I also probably could have maintained my stroke for a little bit longer before standing up out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 04m 1s
Comments:

T1 required a 100-200 yard run up a hill to get to the transition area. Moved through the T1 ok for a first time but struggled with the socks and the cycling jersey.
What would you do differently?:

Work on ways to get the socks on better. They were a bit of a challenge with wet feet. The cycling jersey is also a challenge when wet. If the race is wet suit legal I would wear the jersey under the wetsuit.
Bike
  • 38m 1s
  • 11 miles
  • 17.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode hard. shifted well and passed many of the riders from the first wave.
What would you do differently?:

I might have throttled back a little during the ride to save some more for the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Was pretty tired coming off of the bike and kept it pretty slow to rack in order to catch my breath. Was tired enough to almost forget to take my gloves off.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure that the gloves get off before I leave the bike.
Run
  • 32m 24s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 09m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

The steep hill to start with was hard on the system and had to walk up the hill. It took about 1 1/2 to 2 miles to get my legs back to normal running.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe save a little bit more for the run. The course was also a half mile longer than briefed which made it a little harder mentally.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run is turning out to be the biggest liminting factor. Need to work harder at this event after performing the swim and bike events.

Event comments:

This is a low key event that was a great event for a first time triathlete. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Road cyclists tend to have a higher cadence than triathletes. Why is this? Is it bad?

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

After finishing a sprint triathlon I ate a large meal and about 8 hours later I became very ill with chills, fever and diarrhea. I attributed it to food poisoning but it happened again after a brick.
