Will most of the Full IM races be going to this format? Do you know if Boulder will be a rolling swim start?

From what I have read, the entire Boulder Tri Series has modified their swim start. I would expect to see IM Boulder 2014 to do the same.

the boulder peak was a rolling start, this last Sunday and it actually worked extremely well IMO with the changes from the sprint. It will also be the same at the 70.3 in August I am not sure about the full but I do not see a reason as to why they would change it for that event.

Have any of the IM races that have done a rolling start had two laps? For Lake Placid they are saying they expect it to take 25-30 minutes to get everyone in the water. So by my very rough math all of the fast people will be starting lap two at the same time as the slow people will be entering the water, doesn't seem like an ideal situation...

At races like IM Kentucky where swim is point to point it makes lots of sense to me.

For Coeur d'Alene this yeasr they did the rolling start and set people off in self seeded times, ie... 1 hr, 1:15, 1:30.etc.  I think everyone was in the water withing 10 minutes

I heard the new swim start at CDA was vastly superior to previous editions. CDA and Placid have been most crowded swims of the ten full IM I have done. I welcome the change!

If I was a betting man, then yes, my money would be on all races going to this format. IM Wisconsin, which was originally going to stay a mass start, has now been announced as a rolling start. I would guess that this is based on the positive reports from IM Coeur d'Alene. The true answer will probably be determined after IM Mont Tremblant this year which is slated to be a wave start. WTC/Ironman are probably going to take athlete reviews from both types of starts and use the information to make a final decision.

All of this is my take on what has/will happen, so it is worth what you paid for it.

  • . When was this announced and where? I have heard no such thing, and stated earlier, this wasn't on the site. Show the proof, please.

Not a definitive answer but people in the know say it's a done deal: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4647772

It's a done deal. Ryan Richards the RD for IMWI made the change based on the positive feedback from the athletes from CDA. Once they put in a KQ wave it seems everyone will be happy.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?

Does it matter how fast you go? Does it matter if you win? No. It only matters that you tri your best and smile when you cross the finish line.
