Subject: RE: newbie question roller trainer As others have said, start by setting it up in a door way. You want the front roller to be slighty in front of the front hub. Clip in and balance yourself with one hand against a wall. Start pedalling (you might find it easier to be in a high gear to start ) and then remove your hand and trust your balance.
Focus your vision on a point in front of you. Don't look down at the rollers. As with everything, practice makes perfect. Stick with it and evetually you won't need the wall to get started. Stay with it long enough and you'll be riding them with no hands.
The donwside to rollers is that if you want to veg in front of the TV for hours, keeping your focus on balance can be a pain in the . They're are stands available that you attach the front fork to, thus stabilizing the bike. Kind of defeats the benefit of rollers though.
You can also buy resistance units depending on the brand/design.
