Mallard Point
68F / 20C
Total Time = 1h 27m 22s
Overall Rank = 53/93
Age Group = M 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/5
Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 5:30. Eat a bowl of oatmeal. Load up the truck and drive to the race.
Event warmup:

Boat ride and hill climb to the pre race meeting, then hill descent to the lake.
  • 19m 56s
  • 933 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards

Not a bad swim considering I hadn't been in the water since my last tri over one month prior.
What would you do differently?:

Train a little more!
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s

Hill climb out of transition to the bike mount line. Ran in bike shoes to save my feet on the hill.
What would you do differently?:

  • 37m
  • 9.1 miles
  • 14.51 mile/hr

What a tough course! Started on a hard uphill and never got easier. The wet roads made descending scary and the ascending was slow. It was fun though!
What would you do differently?:

Hill repeats in training!
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s

Slippery hill to run down with dead legs after the bike course. Then had to run back up to get to the real run!
What would you do differently?:

  • 26m 58s
  • 2.6 miles
  • 10m 10s  min/mile

Calf burning extravaganza! Slow uphills and just kept picking up the feet as fast as I could going down. Treacherous course for a mediocre runner!
What would you do differently?:

Run more in training I suppose.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around for a bit, then drive home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The course and the lack of training I did prior to the race.

Event comments:

So many excellent volunteers! Great community to have a Tri!

My right knee has a pain in the front, just below the kneecap. I walked 24 miles of IM Louisville. No pain while walking but it started immediately when trying to run.

So here I was, a hard-working, respectable, just-turned-forty-six-year-old, who never considered herself athletic, lining up in my swim cap and goggles for my first triathlon.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.

What to wear under the wetsuit? What to wear for the bike and the run? Good thing someone invented the wonderful trisuit, to which we’ve become accustomed. It’s supposed to make our lives so simple.

Enter the new TYR X-Sight goggles. The X-Sights have been designed with a flexible nose bridge that (surprise, surprise) is shaped like an “X”.

It's great to have goals, but by itself, a goal is not much. Have you ever shared with someone else that you would “try” to accomplish a goal?

Can anyone think of a better way to spend Labour Day weekend than doing your first tri? Ok, maybe doing your 2nd, 3rd...50th tri...but you get my point. :)
