Sunny
Total Time = 1h 26m 25s
Overall Rank = 75/195
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 10/14
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30, had protein shake, pb & honey sandwich, coffee. Left house a little after 5, got to venue a little after 6.
Event warmup:

No warm - up
Swim
  • 16h 45m
  • 500 meters
  • 3h 21m / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was horrendous. Never could get it going. Ended up doing breast stoke most of the time.
What would you do differently?:

Warm-up, use wetsuit, train more in open water
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

my tri top was too tight and couldn't get it on when wet. wasted time doing that. ended up going shirtless.
What would you do differently?:

practice transitions, practice mounting bike more.
Bike
  • 35m 52s
  • 20 kms
  • 33.72 km/hr
Comments:

pushed hard on bike. had cramps in both calves, first the right, then the left.
What would you do differently?:

learn to drink on the bike. should have known the course better. get more comfortable with mounting and dismounting.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

lost time by slowing down and dismounting too early.
What would you do differently?:

practice dismounting more. try getting out of shoes while on bike.
Run
  • 29m 8s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 54s  min/km
Comments:

right quad cramped badly about halfway in.
What would you do differently?:

train more. take in more fluids and electrolytes earlier in race.
Post race
Warm down:

kept walking to try to loosen up cramps. drank bottle of water and cup of heed. ate slice of watermelon, half a banana, and two cookies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough open water swimming, no wetsuit, primarily to keep warm before start, no warm up, not enough fluids and electrolytes during bike, not enough longer endurance oriented training in the last month.

Event comments:

This was my first ever tri. I learned a lot, and had a blast!

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
