Sunny
Total Time = 1h 20m 44s
Overall Rank = 42/158
Age Group = m4044
Age Group Rank = 11/24
Pre-race routine:

Typical breakfast and coffee
Event warmup:

Had some extra time so I took nice 1ml jog, then a 10min dip in the lake
Swim
  • 15m 44s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I decided to start in the middle of the pack this race. Big mistake as I lost ALOT of time avoiding swimmers for the first 200m. Just a guess, but looking at the times I think the swim was long. Or everyone was really slow... Also, a long run back to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Suck it up and start at the front.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

My first attempt at a flying mount, and it saved me at least 30s in transition. Also made for a smoother start on bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 37m 1s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 20.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Got a new tri-bike to ride. Also concentrated on pacing myself, as I have a tendency to go too hard on the bike, leaving me dead for the run. Not so this time.
What would you do differently?:

More training on bike
Transition 2
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

Great transition. The flying dismount saved me around 30s in transition. The only issue was that one of my shoes unclipped when i dismounted and I had to pick it up. The happened while training, too. Perhaps adjustable pedals are in order
What would you do differently?:

New pedals that will keep my shoes clipped
Run
  • 26m 35s
  • 3.25 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

good solid run. I cant complain about anything. A flat road would be nice, though.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Just walk around and drink some water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably lost a minute on the swim trying to weave through other swimmers

Event comments:

Considering the recent floods and crazy weather, this went extremely well with a lot of participants. Nice course. Everything was very organized and the long sleeve tech-tee is nice, too. Will do this race next year.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?

Couch-to-sprint triathlon training programs to get you over the finish-line of your first triathlon.
