Subject: ILRA Water temp?
Anyone been out to Island Lake Rec Area for a swim recently? I was thinking about trying to get 1 or 2 last open water swims in before it gets too cold. I was just wondering what the water temp has been like. I have a wet suit, but even that has its limits.

It was still probably low 70s about a week and a half ago for the Island Lake Fall triathlon, but the big key has been the cooler nights. My guess is high 60s, especially if you're just buoy chasing in the shallow area in Kent Lake.

And as of last week, there are no buoys to chase.  I guess they removed them for the year.  That's a sure sign of fall!  I swam a week ago Tuesday and it still felt like bathwater but that was the 95 degree day.  I'd guess it's dropped at least 15 degrees since then, maybe more.

I could meet you out there (Kent) Saturday morning, if you want to give it a whirl. I've been meaning to try coldish water since the vertigo I had at the half in Maine. I want to see if ear plugs help.

Let me know if you're up for that.

I've been wondering how that went by the way!  I heard KL had some injuries going in.  Was she able to do it?

She did do it and did great! No pain in her knee at all during the run!

Jason isn't lying. We double capped our heads in anticipation of cold water, walked into the water and removed a cap. For sure mid 60's right now, at least. Also, I think I figured out that ear plugs help me in cold water!

Big huge thanks to you, Jason, for meeting me out there. It was a short swim but it eased my mind A LOT!

I've been using earplugs forever Kimm! Helps with feeling dizzy after being swimming, then standing up and running into t1, and definatly with the cold water in your ears. I used to get dizzy after swimming in sprints! (don't know if what I had was vertigo...)

So glad it helped!!!

PS...HI!
