RedMan Triathlon
75F / 24C
Total Time = 4h 54m 3s
Overall Rank = 25/543
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/59
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:50 Breakfast, Hydrate wait.
Event warmup:

Walk around, No real chance.

  • 37m 8s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards

Best Swim to Date.
What would you do differently?:

Work on swimming with a Coach
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s

Best Transition to Date Pretty happy
What would you do differently?:

Glasses fell apart, Make sure they are not loose before taking off to swim.
  • 2h 21m 47s
  • 56 miles
  • 23.70 mile/hr

Everything went well on the bike. Heart rate staying in correct range. Top bike of the day at least from looking through results. Not posted on results where I ranked exactly, but went through top 10 in all ages.
What would you do differently?:

Get a power meter to better judge effort to have a better run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s

Happy cut off 1.5 mins off last transition.
What would you do differently?:

Different Socks to run
  • 1h 51m 28s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile

Really fell apart last 2.5 miles near cramping so had to back off. Last couple of miles were almost 10 min/mile. Very disappointed after a much better run in Michigan. Did not feel over cooked off the bike, but did not ever feel like I got in a good running groove.
What would you do differently?:

Powremeter for bike to make sure I pace it better. I am probably not good enough to have the best time of the day.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink Sprite and walk of nausea.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Myself, Maybe bike pacing, Maybe just a bad run day. Just need to put all three together.

Is it realistic to race a sprint and Olympic distance race within 2-3 weeks of one another to gauge my progress before tackling the half Ironman?

With stroke improvements I find that when I try and swim long I have lost any speed gains that I had because my stroke count just creeps up and up. I also feel like I'm running out of air.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

This program should be used for an athlete who has been following the progression of the Half Iron Distance program and is 12 weeks out from their first Iron distance race.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
