  • 500 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Definitely need practice sighting in open water - I switch to breaststroke occasionally to sight the buoys, and feel like I slow down a lot for this.
What would you do differently?:

Better sighting, better drafting - interested in trying out a wetsuit to see what difference it makes.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

Steep hill heading up to transition - oof. Decent speed once I got to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn how to do the shoes clipped in to pedals start.
Bike
  • 55m 16s
  • 15 miles
  • 16.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Definite improvement since my last event - and still the biggest room for improvement. Can't wait until my pace is at 20mph!!
What would you do differently?:

Wasn't aggressive during turns - been a little over-cautious since my last spill.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

First time with bagged shoes - it wasn't a disaster, but definitely threw me out of sorts. Racked my bike to the right of my bag, and then had to get around the bike to get to it. Nothing really flowed well after that.
Run
  • 35m 6s
  • 5 kms
  • 07m 01s  min/km
Comments:

Definitely need to train running longer distances - probably 10k long runs and more brick sessions. I'm just worn out and not used to starting the 5k already spent. I can complete a 5k distance fine starting fresh, but struggle a lot with it. Still, did much better than last event.

Event comments:

Really nice location, lots of volunteer support. Having two separate transition areas was a little stressful, but very nice that they transported all gear from T1 to T2 at end of race.

Overall, improved my time by 10 minutes, improved the areas I'd focused on in training, and feel good about progress. Expect to continue to improve next season!!

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Any good race director will go over the triathlon swim course directions many times.

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
