4 Peaks Racing
85F / 29C
Sunny
Total Time = 58m
Overall Rank = 42/91
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 5/10
Pre-race routine:

Another mid-week evening race, so no pre-race routine. Just working all day, then driving to the race.
Event warmup:

My schedule called for a 10K run on this day, so I arrived at the venue early and ran the 5K run course before the race as a warm up and to build to my 10K run distance for training.
Swim
  • 33m 8s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Although my time did not reflect it, this was a better overall swim for me, as my sighting and swim lines were much straighter than normal. I chose to swim sans wetsuit, and I am sure this cost me a couple of minutes (1 of which was made up in transition), but as this was not much more than enhanced training, it was no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

As always....swim faster
Transition 1
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

Without a wetsuit, transition was lightning fast again (9th fastest overall).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 24m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

An average run with a consistent 7:45 pace throughout. I passed about 20 people during the run and luckily was not passed by anyone.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder to see if I can average 7:30 miles
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing - went to the car and headed home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Perhaps a couple of minutes on the swim deciding to swim w/o a wetsuit.

Event comments:

Fun venue - smaller participant numbers make the swim less chaotic.
