Pre-race routine:

Didn't eat much since it was only a 5K but had a Honey Stinger Waffle when I woke up around 6am and then some coffee on the drive over.
Event warmup:

Stretched, did a light jog to get the HR up, and drank some water

Comments:

Personal record 5K and improvement of 1:30 overall from last year's race. Did a good job not getting too caught up trying to keep up with the elite runners as I saw several others do only to hit a wall on the hills. Kept my own pace and set a PR.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. New personal record for my 5K which is nice coming off a disaster HIM run six days before. Very happy.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Stretched. Grabbed water, gatorade, and a banana.

Event comments:

Very fun 5K in a great location and best of all it supports a great cause. Awesome race shirt. BIG improvement over last year's and probably the best race shirt I have received.

I knew I needed to make a commitment to a lifestyle change. Encouraged by other weight-loss surgery runners, triathletes and even Ironmen, I set goals to become an active triathlete.

We all have our reasons for what we do and why we train. I liken my fight against heart disease to Gandalf, and his memorable “You shall not pass” scene.
