Total Time = 1h 15m 27s
Overall Rank = 21/91
Age Group = 65-69
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

Sett up transition and socialize... lots of socialization due to transition closing at 0630 and the race not starting until 0800! Buoys were just being placed at the original start time of the Oly.
Event warmup:

Swim for about 10 minutes. Water was awesome with some 2 foot swells. Excellent conditions for a race.
Swim
  • 09m 49s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good start but after rounding first buoy I kept getting off line towards the shore. It was an incoming tide that might have been pushing me and I should have been sighting more frequently.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working at Masters to get faster.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Good transition with no problems.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 36m 32s
  • 12.1 miles
  • 19.87 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs felt tired at the start and I'm not sure why, as I wasn't kicking hard during the swim. I think I could have gone a little harder, but pretty happy with the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

One of the best T2 times I've had. It helps that the transition area was small and I didn't have to run far, but I don't think it could have gone any better for me, unless I had sockless shoes!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm getting about as much out of my run as I can for now. Coming off an Achilles tear in April and trying to keep my mileage to a minimum. I was happy that each 1/2 mile my pace was quicker and during the winter I'm going to work at increasing my speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much. Drink water and wait for friends to finish.

Event comments:

This race should develop into a larger race, as it is a really nice course, but the race director will have to do a better job at insuring things go off on time. Things were very slow at race day check in, with the need for an additional person helping at the table. Also, nobody understands why the swim course was not set up until after the race was to start, and it appears the Oly course was short. All that considered, I enjoyed the race course and appreciated all the volunteers helping to put on the race. I would definitely consider this race again next year.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

It’s a challenge to push yourself a little harder and a little further. Be proud of every workout that is accomplished and every step-even the baby ones-that you take on this course to the finishline.
