I'm headed to volunteer so I can get a spot for 2014. It will be my first one so I am wondering what all I need to bring, what time I need to show up Monday morning etc... I'm assuming a credit card, USAT membership card, and my volunteer wristband(I signed up for a shift that gets me access to the speed pass line). Anything else?

I think it sounds like the right stuff to bring. Maybe your volunteer t-shirt as well?

There is talk that so many people are going to sign up on site that the race may not even open up on line.

I would be there pretty early to get my spot..........

Yes, those things, plus a blanket, chair, and hot coffee.  I did the race last year and volunteered the year before. It is so exciting. Enjoy the experience both this year and next. Good luck.

Many get in line very early to sign up. It can be a fun experience with many athletes nervous, excited and like minded.

But registration is 9-11, you can normally just walk up with no line at 10:45 and register without the hassle.

I'd done the late walk in on site registration at IMFL within the last 20 minutes twice.

Folks sometimes get nervous that it will sell out and everyone won't get it, but thus far no IM has not allowed everyone on site to register that wanted to. I can't expect that to change either.

Race Ready package is another way to sign up early. WTC bundles a 70.3 and 140.6 race together for one fee (nothing extra) the Thursday or Friday before the race. It seems to favor more local racers.

Definitely these. When we signed up last year there was already a line way before the sun came up and it was COLD!

That's what we did last year. As I remember it: we needed our wristband, usat card and ID. You will NOT need your shirt. And as a matter of fact, depending on your volunteer position form the day before, you might want to BURN your shirt when you are done...especially if you are a finish line catcher. They can get very nastyfied from coming in contact with participants.

I remember that we arrived 30 minutes before registration started and there was probably 1500 people in front of us. We stood in line a little over 2 hours.

Got there at 5am last year and the line was probably 200 deep. They opened registration far earlier than advertised, so we were out of there by 8am.

Cool, thanks for all the tips! I'm hoping the speed pass bracelet will make it fairly painless!

I needed my wrist band and T-shirt (and credit card, of course).  You will get a confirmation number and have to go online later and finalize.

It's a LONG wait, so also bring your patience and/or a chair, warm clothes, coffee...

I think if you have the time, it's probably smart to do what Kathy G suggested and just go late.  It's probably safe.  Standing in line for 2-3 hours just isn't fun.
