Comments: I didn't want to stay with the 4 hour pace group, because I knew I was going to walk, and I still wanted to break 4, so I knew I had to go just a bit faster than thye were going. Felt like I paced well for the first 10-ish miles, about 8:30s. Then I probably got excited because I still felt good, and so I think I started going faster than I was supposed to. I found a group of people around mile 17 who were pacing at 3:55, but they had started 8 corrals ahead of me, so I kinda figured catching up to them was probably not good for my pacing. I stayed with them until I had to start walking around mile 19. I tried to do 30 seconds of walking and then a half mile of running, which lasted about 4 miles. Then miles 23 and 24 were terrible! So much walking. Looking back, I probably could have pushed myself harder, but at the time I just felt like dying! I still tried to run as much as I thought I could, but my walks got very long. I got to the 24 mile marker and forced myself to start running further, and pushing through the pain. I picked it up and put everything I had left into the final two miles, finishing hard with a 8:30 split for the last mile and a 7:17 pace for the last 0.2. What would you do differently?: Less walking in miles 20-24. I think slower pacing in miles 10-15 would have helped that situation. Post race
Warm down: Lots of slow, painful walking. And hydrating. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough long runs in training. Last updated: 2014-02-28 12:00 AM

Got dropped off a few blocks from the start line, so a little bit of walking. Did some stretching while I waited around. Ate a Clif Bar and drank a bottle of water.
