Subject: Archers?

My 13 year old kid that doesn't do triathlon (but probably is the best athlete in the family) has started to shoot her bow in tournaments.  Anyone else?  We're in the midwest and I'm pretty locked in on what is available  here, what about other areas?  East coast?  Anyhting near Richmond, Va. during the weekend of May 4-5.......how about Cincinatti over the weekend of Aug 2-3.  We're going tobe there for triathlons but she doesn't even like to watch them so I thought I'd see if there was an archery tournament close.

Love that show!

Oh wait, different kind of Archer.

There are a couple of ranges in Cincy, maybe give them a call and see if they know of any more low key events that may not be online, or direct you to something you haven't found? This doesn't have dates but the wording seems like it may be a regular thing: http://www.stengerarchery.com/local-events-i-54.html?OBNsid=2475010... />Good luck! Looks like fun.

In North Jersey you've got Bloomfield Archers. http://www.bloomfieldarchers.com/Bloomfield_Archers/Home.html

I don't live in that area anymore but it looks like they are still active.

That's kind of what I'm looking for.   Obviousoly I can find archery shops in the areas I want, but I have no way to know which are decent or not.  There are also usually quite a few club/shop tournaments around that don't get advertised.

All the shops probably know each other.  Call one of them and ask about any tourneys in the area.

I used to be the IT support guy for Sure-Loc.   Not sure if you use their sights or not... but I can tell you they are a great group of people.  Small, family-owned business and EXCELLENT at what they do.   I learned quite a bit about archery from Steve before he passed.    Check out their products if you haven't already.

Whitetail archery season opens up in October here in Illinois :P.  I love archery but haven't really found the time to devote to it since becoming "un fat".

Check out IBO or AMO websites. They may have some info.

Even if she isn't interested in an IBO shoot, there should be range contact information listed that may have the scoop on other shoots.

You need to get her into real archery - traditional. In my opinion, it is a lot more fun.

I think you're right.....but for now she's having fun.  I'll wait for her to ask.

Thanks for the websites!

Actually, that bow is too small for her.  It was her brother's when he was 9 or 10.  Your observation will take care of itself once she gets a bow that fits her better. She can't straighten her arm so her grip is forced to be tighter because of it.  I'd buy her all kinds of cool archery gear if she'd agree to let me sell her horse.....wanna guess how that conversation goes?

You might check out AS A Pro-Am circuit. I use to travel around and shoot their tournaments. They put on great tournaments and there will be all level of shooters there. They kind of remind me of WTC events in tri. There will be pro level shooters there, people flying in from all parts of the country, expo set up for vendors, etc.

Dude, so cool your daughter is into archery. I never shot competitively but archery hunted for years and always enjoyed the practice as much as the hunting. My two older daughters shoot competition shotgun sports and have for about 4 years now and love it. Not sure they'll ever hunt birds but we love to shoot clays together.

Great to see another female archer.

Best of luck to her and as you have said, let her enjoyment of the sport direct where she goes with it.

Haha, want no part of that conversation. Got two daughters my self, dealing with the puppy conversation right now.
Darton makes a bow if you ever convince her.

Is she into 3D shooting? Here is 1 option http://www.3dshoots.com/

In my area (Eastern CT) we have a booklet that includes all area shoots. None are listed on that link above and I only know about the booklet because I get it through my club. I have too little time to travel for archery since I like to do Tris on occasions and we own 6 horses.
