I am a young female software developer, originally from Norway, but lived in the US for 7 years before I moved back home 10 months ago. Now I work and live in Oslo. I have a partner and a dog who are waiting on their visa to move here. I love cooking and crafts. I am very much a beginner. In fact I biked down to the beach and had a nice swim and it was my first time on a bike and in the water in many years. Sad to say that really. I am not a great runner, by any means, but I do have a bit more experience there. I completed my first 5k a few weeks ago. And since I don't have a car I am very used to walking /using my legs to get anywhere. I know that given enough time I can walk any distance. My motivations are a little crazy, but then again, maybe you do have to be a little crazy to be into this sport. A few years ago I saw a program about Norseman and a thought just locked into my head. "I want to complete that one day." Then I went a few years thinking I was too nuts. But now I have sort of changed I think. It is a very long term goal. Because I need to change my whole life for something like that. So my much shorter term goal is that I challenged my brother to a short sprint distance at either Hove Triathlon or Oslo Triathlon in 2015. And I want to complete that just to show him I can. (When I mentioned wanting to do Norseman one day, he laughed.) But my motivations are also a little different than that. I want to get fitter for sure, and since I struggle with self esteem I also want to learn that my body is capable of a lot more than I think. I have already seen some of that in my 5k training and I have also seen how quickly I can adapt and get stronger |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: New in Norway Hi Crafty, welcome to BT and triathlon! Yes, we are all on the crazy bus and you'll get to Norseman exactly the way you got through your 5K ... one step at a time. Remember to check out our open Mentor Groups as well--they're a very approachable, inclusive way to get advice and accountability and introduce you to BT's wealth of resources in a small group format. Link is at the top of this forum and here: 2014 BT Mentor Program |
