Subject: New in NorwayApparently I signed up months ago but haven't really been active on here. Lets see, a little bit about me. My name is Tonje but I go by Crafty or craftyviking online. I am a young female software developer, originally from Norway, but lived in the US for 7 years before I moved back home 10 months ago. Now I work and live in Oslo. I have a partner and a dog who are waiting on their visa to move here. I love cooking and crafts.
I am very much a beginner. In fact I biked down to the beach and had a nice swim and it was my first time on a bike and in the water in many years. Sad to say that really. I am not a great runner, by any means, but I do have a bit more experience there. I completed my first 5k a few weeks ago. And since I don't have a car I am very used to walking /using my legs to get anywhere. I know that given enough time I can walk any distance.
My motivations are a little crazy, but then again, maybe you do have to be a little crazy to be into this sport. A few years ago I saw a program about Norseman and a thought just locked into my head. "I want to complete that one day." Then I went a few years thinking I was too nuts. But now I have sort of changed I think. It is a very long term goal. Because I need to change my whole life for something like that.
So my much shorter term goal is that I challenged my brother to a short sprint distance at either Hove Triathlon or Oslo Triathlon in 2015. And I want to complete that just to show him I can. (When I mentioned wanting to do Norseman one day, he laughed. )
But my motivations are also a little different than that. I want to get fitter for sure, and since I struggle with self esteem I also want to learn that my body is capable of a lot more than I think. I have already seen some of that in my 5k training and I have also seen how quickly I can adapt and get stronger |
