Total Time = 1h 49m 28s
Overall Rank = 103/161
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Get set up as usual in transition. Drop the kids off at the pool and sunscreen and body glide.
Event warmup:

No warm up.
Swim
  • 15m
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

Low water swim. Lots of stopping and dolphin diving involved with most of the field. Bottom is rocky and foot-cutting in places if you dolphin dive.
What would you do differently?:

I employed the dive with 6 swim strokes and repeat method. This was fairly successful for me, but my feet got beat up on the bottom. I need to find water shoes that will stay on your feet for a race like this
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Time is a rough guess as the T1 and T2 are included in the bike time. I timed the bike part myself, so transitions are close anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, because I wasn't really rushing, just tried not to be draggy in the process.
Bike
  • 58m 26s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 19.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Flat course with huge straight-aways and no wind. Nowhere to rest out there. I pushed the pace a bit more on the second half than the first half, but definitely did not attack the course as hard as I did last year. The ride was very enjoyable and it was worth the registration cost to get a ride in that I didn't have to worry about traffic for once. I have had a rash of bad luck lately with inconsiderate drivers.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I stayed in a medium gear and felt like I was going fast and almost noone passed me.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Time again is a rough guess, but it was a good transition regardless of how fast. I did what I needed to without dragging
Run
  • 31m 23s
  • 3.73 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't feel like I was going as fast as I was but did feel a good running stride and stayed smooth throughout. Passed a bunch of runners and saved enough for a sprint to the finish, passing two in the stretch with a large crowd cheering. That was nice. I'll take this pace on a tri run anytime regardless of ranking. Really enjoyed the run.
Post race
Event comments:

Best post-race food in the tri business. Huge spread, take as much as you want and easy to get to. Excellent!

Great race, Dwayne...especially the run & bike.  Outstanding stuff.

The timbits were phenomenal.  As were the turkey sandwiches, the fruit, the drinks, and the company.  What a fantastic race, and great company.  My sides are STILL hurting from the laughing.

Thanks a million for the fantastic weekend.

Did you find the swim longer then last year? It seems that almost everyone was slower by about two minutes. I couldn't figure out why my time was so much slower than I expected, until I saw everyones results.

It was still a great day. The conditions were ideal.
