So last weekend I missed a long ride due to some knee pain, I had to call it quits 45 minutes into the ride. It was IT band related and had some treatment done. Haven't ridden yet, so what i'm asking is assuming the pain is gone and I'm able to start up again this weekend.
Since I missed my long ride I'm wondering if I should add a long ride to the end of my training schedule and start tapering one week later.
I'm training for IMLOU, so the race is aug 25th. My plan calls to start tapering on the week of the 4th. Making this change would delay my taper to the 11th giving me only two weeks. Am I better off going with a 3 week taper, and just chalking up the lost ride or making it up? It's my second missed long ride, but I rode the course 2 weeks ago, 114 miles and it felt easy, so I'm feeling confident in my bike fitness. I did it in 6:12, which is leaving me plenty of room to slow down a tad. Just not sure what's better for me..short taper with an additional ride, or normal length taper.

There's no simple answer to the best taper process.  It can vary from person to person.  That said, as a general rule, if you miss a workout let it go.

I personally would not try to make up a long workout this late in the game. Just get back on the schedule and forget about the missed workout. Can't finish a race unless you start, and you can't start if you wind up re-injuring yourself by overtraining.

You may find your taper plan changing from week to week, based on how your body responds to the actual taper.

I'm tapering this week for my first sprint triathlon. I'm thinking I may need to adjust my calorie intake for the decreased workout load? How do I make sure I am properly fueled for the race?

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.
