The mag trainer offers a constant level of resistance, where the fluid trainer offers more resistance the faster you go (simulating riding outside a lot better. )
I don't see the need for the remote-resistance setting feature some of them have, at least not on the mag trainer. If I want more resistance, I just shift gears.
Make sure to get yourself a good heavy-duty axle skewer too if the trainer doesn't come with one. The lightweight ones that come with your wheels usually don't last too long clamped into the trainer.
