Pre-race routine:

Stayed at one of my client's house and Calvin stayed with my Mom for the weekend so it was a lot more relaxing than prerace for IMCA. Missed the little guy for sure, but it was nice at the same time.
Event warmup:

Since my wave went off so late, I just did a little dynamic WU and a short swim
Swim
  • 29m 38s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

FINALLY broke 30 min for the swim so I was happy with it. I had to do a lot of weaving around other waves and had to go wide a lot of the time, but I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on my swim

Used the wetsuit strippers. Went well

Comments:

I wasn't sure how this ride was going to be because I'm still not quite feeling 100% from Canada. However, I pushed it pretty hard throughout. Had a couple issues passing people and it is a pain being in such a late starting wave, but what are you gonna do.

Dropped my chain at the start of one of the last hills and then it came off again as soon as I jumped back on so that probably cost me a minute or so. Besides that, I'm happy with this ride.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Nothing noteworthy for the T2.
Run
  • 1h 23m 12s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Been going really easy pace wise with the running since CA so I wasn't quite sure how this was going to go. Came off the bike feeling good. I held back a bit for the first few miles because they're rolling and wanted to settle in. This strategy ended up working well.

I saw fellow BTer Scott Bradley who passed me right at the beginning of the bike out on the run quite a bit out in front of me. It appeared it was going to be very challenging to catch him, but I did use it as motivation. The first lap finished up well and I was able to pick it up pretty well. NorthEast MultiSport, my tri club, was handling one of the aid stations right at the end so it was great to see them and it definitely lifted me up.

I felt strong heading into the 2nd loop. I continued to see more of my clients and friends on the course which was motivating. I just focused on my technique and turnover. I ended up slighting negatively splitting the run and my last mile was my fastest of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps I could have pushed it a bit harder, but I'm content with this run.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with the wife and friends/clients for a while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I'm still a bit fatigued from Canada, but not too much.

Event comments:

This is a great race and its great racing close to home. And the perfect weather didn't hurt either. I'm happy with the race and my effort. Kudos to Scott Bradley for a great race and decisively beating me.

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
