I just found out the hard way the need of backing up you hard drive. I lost all my vacation pictures. but more importantly, I've lost data analysis that I've been working on for the last year. I think it's possible I might get canned for this #%@* up.

Why didn't you post this before Thursday, when my Hard Drive died on me? Good luck on any recovery, if I have any success I'll let you know.

DEEP CLEANING BREATH!!

I'm sorry for the data loss... I truly hope you don't loose your job over this.. any chance a data recovery specalist can recover the data analysis and family pics..

Good Luck

I can't really be "fired". But my life could be made a living hell which would hasten my early departure from this fine institution.

And the real funny thing is this has happened to two or three people around here in the last few weeks. You would think we would smarten up and learn a lesson.

I was able to use some linux tools and recover some of the stuff, it wasn't a complete loss.

must be something in the BT water.  Max had a hard drive crash and lost a ton of stuff as well.

So sorry, that truly sucks.

I'm sure you already know about this, but give someone like Drivesavers a call.

I used them when I learned the hard way about backing up.  They were able to nearly completely restore my drive.  It was expensive, at the time about two grand for an eighty gig drive, but they found things I didn't even know existed on the drive.

The money was worth it.  It saved me from losing a client.  Also, insurance covered part of it.

Glad you were able to get some stuff back.. Last weekend I was at the Ex's house doing some work since he was gone for the weekend (my old house).. i had the desk top computer on (my old desktop) and i was playing some music from iTunes.. I paused the music to make a phone call and when I came back the system completely crashed and will now not reboot.. i haven't had time to monkey with the system.. but obviously.. this is ALL MY FAULT.. because i was listening to my music that i had downloaded onto the computer from iTunes eons ago..

Breakups can be ugly

[sarcasm]What! you didn't know, it will always be your fault[/sarcasm]

Use your windows disc to get into recovery console, and try either fixboot or fixmbr. That might get it to boot.
