Swim
Comments: We start from a boat 750 meters from the shore. Waves are approximately 20cm - 30cm high as we start and gradually becomes smaller as we get nearer to the beach. It is a straight line, very little contact with competitors, plenty of space, little occasions for drafting. The day was cool (11 Celsius) and cloudy, I was therefore very glad to get in the water to get some comfort. What would you do differently?: Nothing scary in this swim. Being my first triathlon, I spent however way to much time looking up to find the buoys/path which prevented me from reaching proper speed. I realised my mistake approximatly 50% - 60% of the race completed and applied corrections. Transition 1
Comments: Short transition, little distance between the beach and the transition. Bike
Comments: Somehow, Saint-Donat being on a mountain, I assumed there would be some flat for the bike. I was of course terribly wrong. There was very little turns but a lot of Hills. The road was also very clean (they swept it for us). What would you do differently?: Id did practice very little bike and no hills. I therefore performed very bad and learned a lot. I ended up figuring when to shift on climbs near the first half. Transition 2
Comments: The asphalt was still wet and part of the transition is in slope. Started walking with the biking shoes, stopped and removed them, ended up running barefoot. What would you do differently?: Learn to get off the bike with no shoes. Run
Comments: Hills again. Part of the run is on asphalt, part is on gravel. What would you do differently?: I was very glad I practised stairs and hills! I hurt my foot somewhere during the winter so my running is still slow. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience and pain in the foot. (plantar fascitis) Event comments: Loved this race, Saint-Donat is very beautifull which is part of my criteria. Volunteers were very nice and helpfull. The village is also very nice. Do yourself a favor and buy a pie without any conservative agents at the "boulangerie Saint-Donat"!
