Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 21m 56s
Overall Rank = 49/190
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/53
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, ate toast with PB & J, and some fluids. I arrived at Aurora Res around 6:15am and it was cold and raining.
Event warmup:

ran about 3/4 mile up the run course
Swim
  • 13m 18s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first OWS in a race and it sucked. I started off too fast during the first 200 yrds, and my heart rate started racing. I could never get it down to a more manageable level and that took its toll on my time. My navigation stinks too. I got off course several times.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on looking up for the buoys and maintaining a steady pace throughout the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Pretty non eventful. Everything went smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to work on a faster transition.
Bike
  • 42m 20s
  • 14.3 miles
  • 20.27 mile/hr
Comments:

I had problems with skipping gears, so it may have cost me a little time. But overall, I was pleased with my bike time.
What would you do differently?:

make sure my bike is in top working condition before the race
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Again, uneventful. Made a quick transition to my running shoes, grabbed my race belt and hat and took off.
Run
  • 23m 36s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

I was very pleased with my run given how bad my last tri ended. I didn't need any fluids on the run course as it was still overcast. My pace was good and I used one person who passed me as a rabbit. Strong push over the last 1/4 mile.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing except to train more. I would like to get down to a high 6's avg pace for races next year.
Post race
Warm down:

After the race, I had a bite to eat and then packed up and went home. When I picked up my bike in the transition area, I noticed my back tire was flat. Good thing that didn't happen in the race!

Event comments:

Good race that turned ugly because of the weather.

Sounds like you had a pretty good race aside from your navigation issues.  I raced this one also.
