I was thinking it's odd I live so close to the beach (10 miles) and hardly do any OW swims. I train mostly at a 24 Hour Fitness pool. I tend to do my swim workouts early in the am so I can run and/or bike in the afternoons so I suppose thats why I do so few OW swims

How often do you practice in OW?

About once a week in the summer, I do all my endurance work in the open water. I really enjoy them and am fortunate to have a buddy to swim with.

Not as often as I should! I would like to get in one OWS a week but don't end up doing it. My pool times are like lightening compared to my OWS times ... I will be working on bringing those times closer together.

I'm lucky to belong to a tri club that has 3x a week OW swims. Our lake is 350 across, so you can get a good workout in. i have a hard time transitioning to a pool after September. Our races are at the lake so I can get a good brick in. right now I am swimming 3000 yeards and running for 30-45 min afterwards 2x a week. (gearing up for IMFL!)

Every time I swim.  It was far cheaper to get an annual pass to the local park for $40 than to sign up for a gym membership.  Plus the open water practice is good for open water events.  The funny thing is that I am hesitant to enter a pool swim event because I haven't been in a pool in 8 years and I never did flip turns!

I belong to a Masters Swim program that swims at a pool so I don't get into Open Water very often at all. I figure once I perfect my swimming stroke with the Masters swim and venture back to swimming without the program, I might try to do more open water swimming although my options for open water swimming is limited due to where I live.

Um, where else would you swim between April and November? As often as I can is my official answer.

Pretty much all of my swims are in the ocean... but then again... I live in Hawaii. (Don't hate me because I'm geographically gifted.)

I do them about 1x per week and as often as 3x per week. I also swim with a masters group in a pool about 1x per week.

Its about a 25 minute drive to a nearby lake. This lake is very similar to a many of the local tri venues in the area so its really good practice. And over time, you get exposed to varying conditions of waves, winds, temperatures, sun, clouds, etc.

This is my first summer doing this, getting up early to hit the lake about dawn. But I sure hope its not the last summer doing it. There is something very peaceful, relaxing, earthy, meditative, I'm not sure what; to be swimming along in the lake, turning to breath, and seeing the sun rise.

Definitely makes life worth living experiencing things like that.
