Subject: RE: Timing chip I am sympathetic from the standpoint that coming to a complete stop while getting my chip removed is one of the most uncomfortable parts of the race for me. At my race this past Saturday there were only two chip pullers at the finish line. I felt a calf cramp coming on and was afraid to stop so walked around in circles for maybe 10-20 seconds bit waiting for one of the volunteers to get free to pull my chip. That being said, the integrity of the timing & scoring is dependent on having the timing chips properly controlled and accounted for. If a significant amount of time elapses before you turn your chip in, then that might be why you have been given some grief. It's also somewhat rude and inconsiderate to the timing folks (often volunteers) who have to sort and account for all the chips at the end of a race. If it's that big of an issue, then I would suggest purchasing your own chip so turning it back in is no longer an issue. Mark . |
