Age Group Rank = 27/29
Pre-race routine:

Loaded up the Boat to head over to transition area!
Event warmup:

quick swim to check out wetsuit and goggles.
Swim
  • 09m 16s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim for me, executed pretty much to perfection. didn't want to over do it, got clear water next to the ropes right away and just settled in to a very comfortable steady pace.
What would you do differently?:

purposelessly didn't push the pace, goal for this race was to have something for the run. Could have probably focused more and the pulls, arms were not as sore as usual so probably could have picked up some more speed there. was very slow getting out of the water and to the bike as well.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

deliberate, didn't push it, had some issues getting wetsuit unzipped
What would you do differently?:

little more sense of urgency, I used to have really fast transitions, lately seem to be taking more time to get breathing in check for better performance in the disciplines.
Bike
  • 58m 48s
  • 17 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

goal was to be under 1 hour. Just kept a comfortable clip, again wanting to be more fresh for the run than I have in the past. Certainly could have pushed this harder but don't have the fitness level yet to not pay severely on the run for it. During the ride I thought I was going to come in a little faster.
Head trudy off until mile 3ish and kwaz till mile 12, but was able to keep kwaz in contact for the rest of the ride, which made it more interesting!
What would you do differently?:

for the amount I have been on the road bike I am ok with this ride, I accomplished my goal time and need to remember that.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

first time I kept the shoes on the bike, I liked it
Run
  • 29m 57s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 10m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

goal was to be under 35 mins, so to be under 30 was literally unbelievable. running scared from kwaz was a huge help
What would you do differently?:

nothing

Event comments:

This race is part of an amazing weekend with my 2 and only full time friends. Really hope it becomes a tradition as this is the 2nd year trudy and I have done it together and it was Kwaz's triathlon debut. We mixed in some golf on the drive up friday, hung out sat at the cabin after the race and just had a great time together.
Excited to see how well trudy has been doing in the sport even with limited training and I expect kwaz will springboard from this and become a very solid triathlete.
It was also my wife's rookie tri performance and she did great, so there was a lot to be happy with. Also had 4 other people I knew doing this race with made it that much more fun knowing so many people on the course.
Personally, this was a fantastic race for me, yes I beat kwaz and will always remember it but more importantly I was 19lbs lighter than last year and 20 mins faster. I have made training more of a priority this year and its clearly had an impact. Not to mention I have introduced two more of my favorite people to the sport and hope they keep with it.
I race to the plan I had in my head to perfection on beat my goal time of sub 1.45 by almost 4 mins.
Need to thank kwaz and trudy for making the long trip and signing up, you guys were my motivation for getting my ass moving. Lastly need to thank the amazing wifey, she has been very supportive and encouraging to me getting my workouts in!

As a sports-parent, you can be a good role model for athleticism and healthful food choices. What can you do to regain control without becoming the food police?
