Run
Comments: Overall, I was very pleased with my first effort at the "ultra" distance. I have been running pretty consistently 6 days a week since a couple weeks after Beach to Battleship, but have not done any speed work and the longest run was 16 miles. I averaged between 40 and 60 miles a week, mostly 8 to 10 milers at planned pace. My goal for this race was to have it on the calendar to keep my motivation up during the holidays and take it reasonably easy so my ability to get on with Boston training was not prolonged. I maintained a pretty consistent pace of 8 to 8:15 miles with a few quicker ones. My legs were a little tired but I felt pretty strong the entire way. I guess the consistent volume really does work. What would you do differently?: Not much, accomplished what I intended but did not think I would place so well at my pace. Post race
Warm down: After crossing the line I walked for a little bit and then hit the refreshment tent. They did not have a formal awards ceremony so I checked with the timer and he sent me over to the awards tent for a finishers medal and age group medal. What limited your ability to perform faster: Went as fast as I planned. Last updated: 2016-01-04 12:00 AM

Up early, had a bagel with Nutella and headed over to get a decent parking spot close to the start/finish line. It was pretty chilly until the sun came up so I just hung out in my truck until close to the start. I made the last minute decision to drop a layer of clothing and left a bag with back-up nutrition at the bag drop.
A little stretching and walking around to stay warm.
