Your FIRST challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to score at least 2 triathlon specific workout DAYS out of the 29 possible in February.

Workouts must be in the disciplines of swim, bike, and run/walk. Strength training is optional and may be scored as a workout. Sports days (like my kayaking) DO NOT count.

No more than 10 workout days may be in any one discipline. Bricks are excluded from this limit.

You must score at least one workout in each discipline per week.

You cannot have more than 2 rest days in any one week.

Please note, we are counting DAYS not workouts. So if you do two workouts in one day, it still only counts as ONE DAY. The idea behind this challenge is to build consistency.

The SECOND half of the challenge is to take your distance totals for each discipline last month and increase them by at least 10%.

No, I did not go to the gym today. I had my bag packed and in the truck. But when it came right down to it I simply could not make myself go to the gym. It was far too nice outside to waste the after school hour staring at a white brick wall and going nowhere on a dreadmill.

1/20 - Walk - 33m 22s - 2.00 miles - 16m 40s /Mi

Instead I hurried home, threw on some training clothes and went out on my 2 mile Valley Rd out-n-back route. And I set TWO PR's in the process. I got my first mile, all uphill, i n only 18m 13s. And then my best overall time by more than a minute! I have never finished this course under 34m, until today. Between the remains of last months cough/cold and my EIA I am coughing my brains out right now, but it was totally worth it.

2/20 - Bike - 45m 47s - 9.00 miles - 11.79 Mi/hr
It was too nice to go to the gym again today. Took the bike for a ride around the River Rd instead, no worries about pace or time, just wanted to make two easy laps.

I am in. However, I am already behind. I have an infection that is kicking my butt. However, I now am on the mend so I'll get going today. I am also going on a 2 week vacation. I will have access to a gym so I am going to make the most of it. No swimming, but I can get lots of bike and running in with some weight training.

If you like challenges, check out Lose It.. It's free for the basic site

We've been having freakishly warm weather here in PA the last week and I have been out there enjoying as much of it as I could. But life has gotten in the way of posting. Here's what I logged since my last posting.

Thursday
3/20 - Walk - 35m 30s - 2.00 miles - 17m 45s /Mi
Another beautiful day for a gentle walk. No interest in speed, and for once I was able to control the 21 yr old kid in my head.

Friday
4/20 - Bike - 44m 17s - 9.00 miles - 12.19 Mi/hr
A sweet afternoon ride with no interest in speed, just building distance back up.

Saturday
5/20 - Walk - 1h 12m 19s - 4.50 miles - 16m 04s /Mi
I know I should be at the pool at least once this week, but I just can't pass up this beautiful, unexpected weather in the middle of February. Went out for a long, slow walk and saw the biggest bluejay I have ever seen in my life. He flew along ahead of me, landing on fence posts and guard rails for nearly a mile before he got sick of me catching up to him and flew across a field.

Monday
6/20 - Walk - 1h 03m 11s - 3.70 miles - 17m 04s /Mi
Looks like the last of the nice afternoons for a while, so I squeezed on more walk in here. Did my medium route, with the dreaded Hillside Drive between 2.5 and 3.0 miles. Huffed and puffed, but I made it.

Tuesday, YUCK! 33ºF and rain/snow combo. I'm not going outside in that crap! Hmmm, maybe I better think harder about getting up at 0500.

BRRRrrrrr! 23º and windy when I got home today. Put on long johns and sweat pants, two sweatshirts, a knit watch cap, and gloves. Went for my usual 2 mile out-and-back. I had on interest in pace today, did not even take my phone or earbuds with me. Just the old school IM wristwatch. Quiet, introspective walk.

It was a long-standing family joke that my mother supposedly picked my wife for me. I wish she were alive so I could tell her how true that was. And she could not have made a more perfect choice. Today, we hiked the Jakoby Falls trail. It was 13ºF and we had a really pleasant walk. We weren't cold, once we got up into the gully and out of that nasty wind. And Cindy performed beautifully, never complained, barely stopped to rest. What a champ!

I only was able to do a walk with the dog yesterday. It was fast, but still. Day 6 off the boat and I am still feeling the boat rock. It happens every time I am on a boat for an extended period. That part is fun, this part is not. I am going to try to drive today, I need to get to the pool!

Short after school walk squeezed in before getting ready to take the wife to dinner. Only ONE car passed me in that entire time.

Back on track. 15/20. Not sure I'll do the plus 10% category. Great news is that I hit a very long, maybe 15 yr low weight on Fri morning. High was 259, down to 225 on Fri

Unseasonably warm weather, already over 40*. Went for a bike ride, 2 laps of the River Rd. Pleasant ride, no music, just wandering thoughts.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This Intermediate 20 week plan is a quick ramp up in overall volume, but with 20 weeks to train only, it is a gradual and safe approach because of the alternating weeks of the long run/bike.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
