Overall Rank = 1304/1657

Pre-race routine:

My son called me two days before the race to see if I was busy for the weekend because he wanted to come for a visit. I told him if he wanted to visit, he'd have to run 13.1 miles with me! He is a well-seasoned Spartan racer, so he's in good shape but had never run a half marathon before. He agreed to do it, and since I've lost a lot of run fitness anyway, I told him we would run together at a slow easy pace.
  • 2h 44m 59s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 35s  min/mile

We kept it slow and steady and walked up a few hills. It was VERY windy which bothered my eyes/contact lenses. But it was still a beautiful day and a nice run.
What would you do differently?:

Wear wrap-around sunglasses to better protect my eyes!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the parade grounds and met up with teammates.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

I love this race and hope to do it every year.

Training for a specific running event is not as easy as it might seem. Here are some tips and a weekly plan to avoid overtraining and to improve your performance.

I didn’t used to like to run slow. You begin to recalibrate your needs and wants and if-only you could jog an easy two miles, three times per week. Running is a gift.

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

One year ago I weighed 238 lbs. and got winded walking up one flight of stairs - literally. I ran across a brochure for a triathlon...hmm. It seemed like an impossible task, but I was intrigued.

How to be a BOPer or MOPer in a FOPer world. As a middle of the pack athlete, I have adopted some things I do to assure a victorious feeling at every event I finish.
