Sunny
Total Time = 2h 53m 55s
Overall Rank = 44/124

Age Group Rank = 6/12
Pre-race routine:

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate the day and morning before - rest day before. Very Hot!
Event warmup:

On tiny lap in the water.
Swim
  • 21m 13s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim went really well & was even enjoyable - only issue was one goggle kept filling up. No issues passing people on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - everything went perfect.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

went well
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 18m 8s
  • 25 miles
  • 19.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went very well, I felt strong. I would've liked to gotten 20mph average on the course but with the heat & rolling hills I feel like it went very well. I shouldn't quibble since I went 2/12 in my age group on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, went well
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

no problems
Run
  • 1h 13m 3s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Horribly hot at 100 DEG F. Temperature slowed me way down & and I walked at least 2/6 miles and the aid stations. On the plus side my 'over-hydration' strategy seemed to work, even though I was uncomfortable during the run & didn't get heat exhaustion.
What would you do differently?:

My run training is way below par this year. Realistically, if I want to do this distance again I need to run way more for training --- but I don't like to run anymore.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in the cooling tent and drank water - I was pretty well recovered in 20 mins.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of running training & the temp (but that affected everyone else too)

Event comments:

HFP always does an outstanding job organizing a race. You really get a lot for your money (and the races are relatively inexpensive.)

Race day safety is paramount for them & they cut the race running course for the 70.3 distance for those racers due to the heat. (OLY distance was unchanged.) Bike course was very safe with police at every intersection ... probably 20-30 officers out. This year's weather was a suffer-fest during the run, but that's the risk you take when signing up for a July Triathlon.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.
